What to do with an aggressive cat

Angry cat

One of the issues that concern many humans is the possibility that their beloved feline shows inappropriate behavior towards them or towards a relative, to such an extent that they even wonder what to do with an aggressive cat.

The first thing to know is that every cause causes an effect, or in this case a reaction. If we want to prevent the furry from behaving that way, it is very important that we know what is bothering you.

Why can a cat get angry?

The cat is generally very peaceful. It is aware of the strength of its claws and fangs, and only uses them with violence when it is really necessary, that is, in this situations:

  • During the hunt to kill their prey.
  • During a fight to "conquer" or defend the territory.
  • During the heat, to stay with the female.
  • Or if your life is in danger.

It is true that when the cat happens to live with people inside a house it does not need to hunt or fight. But what about the last point? Although little by little we are understanding these animals better, the truth is that sometimes what for us is a simple game, for them it is a threat.

Let's think of a little boy playing with the feline. They can both be having a wonderful time until the boy, much bigger and heavier than the feline, grabs his tail and squeezes it. It hurts the cat a lot, and it reacts by attacking. The child cries, which alerts the parents that they will choose to lock the animal in a room or, in the worst case, to abandon it.

What to do with an aggressive cat?

It is important be very patient. If the cat is aggressive, that is, if the hair on its back and tail stands on end, and it also growls and snorts, it should be left alone. You should never try to calm him as if he were a human, that is, holding him in your arms and caressing him, since otherwise we would get more than one scratch. It is always better to let it be, on the floor and with the doors inside the house open so that you can go wherever you want to relax.

In the event that you have this behavior because you are feeling pain, such as the one you may have after an accident, for example, if you cannot move, we will take a large towel -the largest we have-, we will make a double fold and wrap the animal with her; In the event that he has mobility in the legs, we will attract him to the carrier offering him a food that we know in advance that he loves, such as a can of wet cat food, fresh tuna (not canned) or meat. Once it is controlled, we will do what we have to do (take him to the vet, treat his wounds and / or give him the medicine).

How to avoid bad behavior?

With patience, respect and affection. None of these three things can be missing. Only with the three will we get the cat to be peaceful always. As his caregivers we have to take advantage of the time we spend with him to understand their gestures and try to make them lead a full and happy life by our side, avoiding at all times playing with our hands and / or feet if we don't want them to bite and / or scratch us as an adult. He deserves it.
