My cat has escaped, will it come back?

Cat escaping through the window

Cats are very curious and some, sometimes, driven by that curiosity, can do what we fear so much: leave home. And that will be when we ask ourselves: if my cat has escaped, will it come back? It is a question that undoubtedly no one wants to have to ask themselves, but since we are living with an animal that has not finished being domesticated, unfortunately when we bring one home we have to take the risk.

There are many ways to prevent the furry from leaving, and we will see all of them in this special article. But you will also know what to do in case your cat is gone

Why do cats run away?

Sad cat that has escaped

It is important know the character of cats, and more specifically, of those who live with us to know how they will act in different situations. Let me explain: a cat that is shy or elusive is very difficult one day to want to go out the door; On the other hand, if you are very sociable and you love to explore every corner of your home, you will probably take advantage of the fact that the door is slightly open to go out for a walk.

To this we must add what we have said before: their domestication is not over. Unlike dogs, under the skin of these little felines is still the wild spirit of the lion or tiger. Their body is specially designed for hunting, which they do especially at night since They are nocturnal animals. So much so that they take advantage of the hours we sleep to play, run and do some mischief. After having spent the whole day sleeping, at sunset they 'activate'.

And this can be a problem, since when we have an animal that wants to go out to explore and is not allowed, it will not only let us sleep, but he could get frustrated. Over time we would see how he takes advantage of the slightest opportunity to look out the window, observing the birds that flap around the house. If we don't 'tire' it in time, that is, if we let the cat spend the boring day sleeping, the chances of it escaping are very high. So, let's see what we can do to avoid getting there.

How can I reduce the risk of my cat escaping?

Keeping you awake during the day

Cat awake

The cat needs to sleep between 14 and 18 hours a day, but not in a row. The truth is that he takes little naps, waking up to stretch, eat, drink and go for a walk. To get him to rest at night, what we must do is take advantage of those moments when he is awake to play with him. Often a simple ball will be more than enough to end up tired, but happy.
Do 10-15 minute sessions three or four times a day and You will see how little by little you are noticing that at night he sleeps more.

Sterilization: important to eliminate heat

When she is in heat the instinct surfaces. Male cats become hyperactive, and may even have aggressive behaviors as a result of their desire to find a female. Also, if they go outside and come across another cat that is also in heat, they will get into a fight that can end really badly for one of them, who will come home seriously injured. Instead the cats will become extremely affectionate, and will meow in search of a male.

With sterilization this problem is eliminated from the root. Sterilized males and females become calmer, more sedentary; and even if they go outside, they will not have to travel long distances in search of another cat, so they will not go more than one or two streets from their home.

Good care at home

Sterilized cat

When your furry is happy living in a home, he will not want to leave. So, in addition to giving him food and water daily, take care of him with affection and respect, maintaining a pleasant family atmosphere. It is important that he is not mistreated, otherwise as soon as he sees an exit he will use it.

Take him to the vet whenever he needs it and thus ensure that their health is good. Depending on the care you give him, his quality of life will be better or worse. It is highly recommended that it be good, for the good of both the animal and its family. After all, we are the ones who have decided to live with him.

Microchip, necklace and identification plate

It is true that if you do not have permission to go outside, a necklace with an identification plate may not be necessary. However, it doesn't hurt. Sometimes accidents happen, and the fastest way to be located is through the license plate that will be attached to the collar.

If you still don't want to wear it, the microchip is mandatory. When you put it on, nothing hurts; in fact, you won't notice any more discomfort than if you were bitten by a mosquito. Afterwards, nothing. It will always be worn on the left side of the neck, and it will be very useful in case of loss because thanks to it they will know your name, address and telephone number.

Now if you go outside, I recommend that you put the three things: microchip, necklace and plate. You never know what might happen, and you better make sure that, in case it gets lost, the chances of finding it are very high.

Doors and windows closed  Closed house window so that the cat does not escape

To prevent it from escaping, we must always keep the doors and windows closed. In the case that we have a patio, it is convenient to put metallic mesh so that the cat cannot jump over the wall. Our friends can jump with a height of up to 2 meters, for the minimum safety height will be 2m.

If you have a balcony, it is advisable not to let him go there. You may want to go in search of a small animal that you have located and fall, breaking a leg in the best case.

What to do if my cat has escaped?

Cat that has escaped

When inadvertently we have left the cat a way out and it leaves, in principle it should not worry us (although yes, it is difficult not to). He may have simply gone for a walk around the building, if you live in an apartment, or around the area if you live in a house. But if 24 hours pass and it does not return, it will be time to start looking for it.

The first thing to do is print posters with your phone, a photo of the animal, the day and place where it was last seen, and its microchip number. Very important too offer a financial reward, since this way more people will be interested in the cat and will look for it.

Take them to veterinary clinics, bookstores, supermarkets ... well, to all the places where many people go. Also stick some on the streetlights, especially in your neighborhood, although do not rule out putting them on neighboring streets. You can even contact the local newspaper to let you place an ad.

Lastly, Go get it. Go around your neighborhood: look in parks, animal shelters (they can help you find it too), anywhere a cat can go.

And what to do if it is not found?

Stray cat

I don't like to lie or cheat on anyone. From experience I can tell you that a cat that takes more than a week to appear, it is very rare that I come back. Sometimes it happens, but ... they are the least. It is good to have hope, you have to have it to find it, but when so much time has passed the best advice I can give you is to try to recover your daily routine.

It is very hard, but the chances of something bad having happened to the cat are very high.

Much encouragement.

If the truth is that I have found it interesting, but I think that each person knows their cat and has to be guided a bit by instinct and I say this because it happened to me recently.
My cat is six months old and if he would leave from time to time or call him and soon he came. One day he left and did not return, I left the window open for him in case he returned that night and nothing did not return.
The next morning I had to leave and I would not arrive until night, I did the same again, leaving the window open, but when I arrived I had not gone to eat everything was intact. I began to call him like the night he left, and I began to hear a lazy meow, the more I called him the more Mayaba, I listened to him how he suffered or so I felt, but if he was suffering because he could not get out where he was.
He had been from roof to roof (they are a village house) and he entered a patio which had no vine or tree and the poor man could not go up and partly he got into a room and he could not leave. I started looking and calling him I could find him, he was very scared, since then he climbs alone on the roof.

My cat escapes a lot, and that being sterilized, it goes away and months may go by but it never comes back and I have to look for it, it always happens and I don't understand why, I feed it well, I always give it attention and affection and you can see that it likes me home, sleep with me and things like that

I have a 1-year-old cat, which has always been a very pampered, vaccinated, affectionate cat, she did not lack anything.
When I went to sleep I left the blind open all night 15 cm, I did not think that it could escape or sneak through that hole, when I got up I heard the other cat meowing on the other side of the blind and the cat was not there, it escaped No matter how hard we look, we can't find it, and what we don't know is if we know the way home or what happened.

    Hey.
Whenever a cat disappears for more than a day, start making "WANTED" signs and put them all over the neighborhood. Veterinary clinics, pet stores, and even the police must be notified if the animal is microchipped.
Important: offer financial reward. Few people help for free, so if you offer money in return, they will take it more seriously.
Hope is the last thing you lose.
A hug to all of you, and good luck!

I would like to know if my cat is going to come back the two days ago that he left, it is that in the neighbors' house they have a cat I have seen him and I have called him but he does not come I do not know if he will return, why is he after that cat? it passes and comes back

      1.    Monica sanchez said

        Hello Jenny.

Sorry, that can't be known. 🙁

In principle, when that cat's heat passes, she should come back. But if not, you can ask the neighbors to see if you can enter their house and thus look for your cat.

        Greetings and encouragement!

My 14-month-old cat, neutered, left 5 days ago, I already looked for her, talked to neighbors, published her photo everywhere, I put tuna on the roof and nothing. I'm already devastated 🙁 Will she come back? Her little sister is super strange.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Monica.
It is difficult to know. I can only tell you that if she is neutered, the likelihood of her coming back is much higher. But unfortunately I can't tell you anything else. I do not know. I wish I could help you more 🙁.
Follow the advice in the article: put up "Wanted" ads in your neighborhood, at veterinary clinics, bakeries, and more. and look for it around.
      Good luck, and good luck.

I found another cat that was hidden but nothing of mine ... I already put up posters, I already went from house to house with flyers, I ask who passes by me and nothing at all, what terrifies me is that he suffers from asthma and the weather is very cold and it terrifies me to think that he's sick ... Good night,
I took my one and a half year old, neutered and well cared cat to the vet for the vaccine.
Leaving there in my arms, the noise of a supermarket cart scared him so much that he made a lot of force and managed to escape from my arms.
I still haven't found it. I put up posters offering a reward. I looked for him day and night calling him with the noise of and food and nothing….
The vet is about 30 blocks away and he was only there last year when he was neutered.
How do I know if it is going to orient itself to return?
We are very sad and it was he who with approximately two months appeared at home and chose us.
Thank you very much and I await your comments.

To this day, Thursday, I do not know about her, on the street there is a kitten similar to mine, because of her fear, I almost put her in the house, almost to go inside I checked her and it is not Maya, now at night I went out together with my brother calling her for her name and making a sound with the can of food, why that was what he called her to eat. And it does not come out (TT). I do not lose hope that I will find her, publish that she is looking for adoption pages with her photo and number, tomorrow I will go looking for her.

Hello. I am very worried about my cat. I have been traveling abroad for 8 months and my cat has not returned for a month, my parents told me. My mother used to tell me that since I was gone, she spent all the time with her or in my room. I don't know if he felt that I left him and left or if something happened to him. Please don't know what to do I'm far away and I'm very worried I'll die if he doesn't come back I know cats leave but never for that long. I don't know if there is any advice to find it. They warned me very late and it is much more difficult. Thank you

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Camila.
The first thing is to make Wanted posters with a picture of the cat, a phone number and a financial reward. You have to take one to veterinary clinics, stores, ... put some in parks or in those areas where many people are concentrated. It is also important to put several where you live.
Afterwards, you have to go visit the animal shelters, in case you were there. It can be used to give them a poster, so that they are up to date.
And for the rest, it will be left to go out and look for it and wait to see what happens.

A month is a long time, but it is still too soon to lose hope. Much encouragement. Hopefully you are lucky and come home asap.

      A abrazo.

My kitten is adopted, he came to my door one day, I already knew him in the street and I caressed him and fed him, until the brave man dared to enter the kitchen, very noble, very clean, beautiful .. He is neutered two months ago and I always spent time at home even the whole niches, of course at 5 am I did mischief to feed him and open the door, I did it because I knew I would go to my parents' house and at 9 am I would return to have a drink. Snack and sleep .. So our routine .. Today it has been 2 days since he has left and does not return .. A day before I scold him for catching a little bird, which he removed from his snout and flew, he meowed very strangely as sad and demanding However, I think I forget it and we continue our normal day. I wonder if he left to scold him (don't hit him or yell at him). I would like to know if he still has altered hormones? And he has gone looking for a partner.
I do not forgive myself for scolding you, I am so sorry .. I have read you .. Thank you for all the information and encouragement to those who are going through the same thing that I am going through now! I understand them and I am with you .. A Hug <3

Hi Monica, I have 6 cats all sterilized. We live in the country and we just moved a month ago two kilometers to our own house, where they have more space and lots of trees to climb. In the previous house they had their window to enter and leave at ease… ..now that we have moved and thinking about their adaptation we have not opened any windows while they know their new home… and we go out with them so that they do not go far and begin to know . The eldest that is male blew me away the first week after moving. He arrived at my previous house where my neighbor, she warned us and we brought him back ... after two days he left again and appeared a week later again on my neighbor's roof, he received neither water nor food, nothing alone takes refuge there. We have picked him up again this week and we have been locked up for four days, we have not let anyone out and I see that he wants to escape again and I am also embittering the others by not letting them be free as before. What could be happening and what can I do so that he understands that this is his home now.
    Thank you

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Martha.
      We must have patience.
When you are at home, it is important that you play with him, that you spend time with the family. You must know that you can go out, yes, but that when you return home they wait for you to continue having fun.
The home has to be fun, safe, a place where you can be calm while the cat gives and receives affection. Only then will it return to him.
Another thing you can do is give him cans of cat food every now and then as a treat. While eating, pet him a little. This will make you feel more at home.
      Much encouragement.

Hello Monica, thank you for your instructions, he spent these days calmer, he went out and came in and was rewarded with his favorite food and a lot of consent… ..but yesterday morning again everyone was opened to leave and he did not return …… We have already given notice in the previous house so that as soon as he gets there they will inform us and we will go for him. I trust God that I get there safe and sound and patiently continue to do my best to make him feel at home. I love all of them very much but because he is the oldest he is my favorite hehe… I sing him I hug him I tell him nice things like that he is the mother's beloved child… that the father and the mother suffer a lot when he leaves …… I I know they understand, I hope he comes back again soon. A hug for you and again a thousand thanks for your support

For me, he got bored with me and found another family, or is in love (although he is neutered), and I don't know why, because I took care of him and pampered him a lot. Hopefully he comes back, since I miss him so much: c

      Hi Karexa.
I'm so sorry your cat is gone. But let me tell you that cats don't get "bored" with people, or do things to punish them, simply because they don't understand about it.
You've probably seen something that caught your eye and you left, maybe you went too far.
I hope I return. Much, much encouragement.

Is it possible that someone took it?
He left at dawn by accident.
    I miss her so much
The day he escaped it was raining and there are many dogs in my area, it is possible that he went out through the main door that opens onto the street.
What do I do if someone has it and doesn't want to give it back to me?
    Help please

      Hello Andy.
I'm so sorry your kitty was lost.
My advice is that you go out and look for it and ask the neighbors to see if they have seen it.
      Put posters also to see.
In case you know for sure that someone has it, if they do not want to return it, you could ask the police for help, or talk to that person. But it is difficult for this to be the case. Normally, people do not collect animals.
      Much encouragement.

      Hi Rodriguez.
Although the photo is not very clear, it does not matter. On the poster you can specify what color it is, if it wears a necklace, if it has a birthmark, a special stain (like a white freckle on the neck, for example).
Go out to look for her, especially in the afternoon when cats are most active. Call her, and bring her food. Ask the neighbors to see if they have seen it, and the vets.
      Much encouragement.

Help! 10 days ago a stray kitten came to my house, I fed her and she stayed, in fact she was very affectionate, and she became very attached to me, however from the first day a male cat arrived she chased her, cried for her and looked for everything time, I looked on the Internet for signs of heat and she did not meet any, at night more cats came to look for her and last night my cat ran away, and I do not understand it she seemed to be happy !! Even though she was still a small kitten, she had already given birth to be able to see by the tits, however, it was some time ago !! Why does this cat not leave her alone?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello paola.
When a cat goes after a cat it is because the cat is in heat. Sometimes they do not show clear signs of being, but if a cat does not want to get away from her, that is why.
Castrating the cat will solve the problem 🙂.
      A greeting.

Help!!!! My cat has left home ... he has always remained free. He spent the day at my house and slept on the patio where he had his food, but these days he leaves and comes only a few minutes, other days he doesn't even come ... others sleep in the yard and enter my house but only for minutes.
What can I do to make him go home like before?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Eli.
You can leave food out and a piece of clothing that smells like you.
It is also highly recommended to castrate it to prevent it from going away again.

Hello, my kitten is barely a year old, she is very cuddly and likes to be caressed but I don't know if it is also by strangers… .. She disappeared a couple of hours ago. He likes to go away, but almost always when he talks to him, he returns. I don't know if someone would grab her or they poisoned her (I don't think so) because she never leaves and doesn't come back. I'm super devastated, what do you recommend me to do ??? Thanks

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Arely.
In situations like this, what you should do is go out to find the animal. Ask your neighbors to see if they know anything, put up "Wanted" signs, and notify your local vet.
When she returns, it is advisable to neuter her to prevent her from leaving again.
      A greeting.

Hello I am desperate and very sad downstairs there are many cats in the building because they are not operated on and they reproduce a lot I decided to operate a cat that is the one that has given birth the most and I took her to the vet to sterilize her and she let her escape operated Through a window and it is located in the center where there is a lot of car traffic, it is about twenty-five blocks from the house. We took her in the car… .. and my question does not appear, because she is a stray cat, will she know how to return to the building? Or I am going to die with that wound without operated antibiotics, what do I do? I live in barquisimeto Venezuela and everything is very difficult for me

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Patricia.
He has to go out and find her. Ask the neighbors, put up posters ... The sense of direction of cats is very good, but it is important that the human go out to look for them in situations like this.

Hello, I have several questions because my cat has escaped. I live in the city, there is a park near me, but my floor is a room. Can a one-year-old cat withstand such a big fall? We do not know if it went through the window or the back door, because we are painting the house, I am very afraid that something could happen to it. She was just in jealousy and we thought she left because of that. Do they usually come back after the heat? She was very afraid of the street, because when we tried to get her down she would cry and we couldn't. Is it possible that she has overcome the fear? If she got pregnant after how long could she come back? She is a very pretty white kitten with blue eyes ...

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Noelia.
      Do I answer you:
-The truth is that he could bear it more or less well, since from that height he has enough time to turn around and land on his feet.
-Cats yes, after heat they usually return home.
-If you were in heat, most likely you have forgotten the fear of the street.
-In the event that she has become pregnant, it could happen that she went home to give birth, or that she had the kittens on the street and returned when they were grown up.

Anyway, I recommend you take her to castrate if she returns. This way he will not leave again since he will no longer have zeal.

      Much encouragement.

My cat (Lara), has been gone about 4 days ago, this had already happened once (it was 12 days), but at that time she was not castrated, now I don't know what to think and it makes me sick not to know where she is, I live in an apartment with a hallway and there are many houses before the street, in fact there are many behind my house (which is where I suppose it must be if it did not go to the street), we all feel quite bad, because we have it ago 2 years and is a relatively large cat (3 years)

My cat left my house two days ago and does not return!
I am very afraid, is it not the first time that this has happened to me because my previous cats just went away or stolen them and never returned? He is only 6 months old, could it be because he is in heat ??? I am very afraid and I look for him around the house and he does not give any signs, it seems strange to me because only he disappeared and his mother is still at home
He is a house cat whenever he came home in the afternoon. my neighborhood there are too many cats, the truth is, there are more cats than neighbors
I am very afraid, please, what do you think?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Monica.
Most likely, he has gone looking for a partner. At that age they usually reach sexual maturity.
Put up signs around the area and ask the neighbors.
      Good luck.

He is already sterilized and for that reason it is even rarer for him to escape ... he likes to go out for a walk but he always came back and it did not take long for him to be out ...
My question is what should I do because I am worried that he is somewhere hurt or locked up ... help please, we are very worried!

      Hello Natalia.
I recommend you ask the neighbors. They may have seen it and can tell you where it is.
Also notify the vet and put up posters, if possible, offering a financial reward (it is very sad, but people tend to help more when they see that, if they find it, they will be rewarded with money).

I used to let him go out to the balcony of my apartment to be distracted and there was never any problem (I live on the third floor) but tonight he was very restless, he meowed too much and I let him out as usual and when I went to look for him he was not, I worry that He has been damaged jumping so high, I already checked on my street and there are no tracks of him, I am very distressed, do you think he could be with a broken leg?
Could you suggest me what to do? Thanks.

    Hi there!
I live in an apartment and from time to time I take my cat for a walk in a park near my house. Yesterday afternoon we went out and I lost track of him at night (reckless on my part). Normally he comes if I call him or meow to let me know where he is, but he is not neutered and the park is full of cats and cats that the people of the neighborhood feed. He is 10 months old, he is not neutered, it is spring ... and he was stealthier than usual yesterday, so I think he wanted to go looking for cats.
He always shows me signs of attachment that indicate that he is comfortable when we are at home. Looking for him last night and today in the morning I have found 3 cats, but not him. I consider him aware that if I find him he will not have cats, so I will continue to go there with the food bowl, leaving food for the last place where we were and water too (other cats will eat it too).
My plan is that, to get closer to the cats in the area and I may find him sometime, because I know that even if he wants to have his time outside as a fertile cat, he will not be having a good time at all and he gives me something let another cat hurt him. I will continue to call him with his name and with food, but also if I find him, he may prefer to stay with the cats in the park.

    Do you have any recommendation?

Thank you very much to Todxs for your contributions. Lucky!!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Alvaro.
You are right to go looking for him every day, but I will tell you something: no matter how much he wants to go looking for a partner, the cat will always prefer to be with the person he loves the most. They are very intelligent animals, and they know that with their family they will not lack food or affection; On the other hand, they can have a bad time on the street.

Recommendation, well, if you have a sound toy that the cat enjoys, you can take it with you. Most likely, as you say, he's with the cats in the park, so he might hear it. Of course, two things can happen: that it immediately appears and goes to you, or that it remains hidden. If the latter happens, return with the toy later or the next day.

      Good luck.

Hello, I wanted a question, I have a 2-year-old cat, he always escapes but he comes in less than 2 hours or when I call him, he comes, but he has not appeared for 2 days, I already pasted signs around the block and I went looking for 2 times a day, only once I lost it and it came back after 3 days
But this time it seems strange to me I asked the neighbors and they told me that they did not see it, but at night I hear that the dogs work and that cats are heard everywhere and a neighbor told me that his cat also left like 3 ago days
And I don't know what else to do?

Hello, my cat got lost for a month then today I found it under my car I called him and he came pending food but I grabbed him to put him in the house and he attacked me now he is in the garage but he is very aggressive, what am I supposed to do?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Rodrigo.
I recommend you to be patient. It is possible that he felt a little bad when you picked it up, maybe nervous, and that's why he assaulted you.
You can invite him to play, for example with a rope, or give him wet food. These things will make you feel good again, calm.
Anyway, having been away for so long it is possible that he has an injury, or perhaps a fracture.
It wouldn't hurt to have the vet take a look at him when he's calmed down a bit.
      A greeting.

    Hello
My cat Milka is 1 and a half years old, we caught her very young and she thinks I am her mother. The other day we brought a 1-month-old kitten and she got very jealous, she was also going into heat. I jump out the window at 4 in the morning.
The neighbor heard her meow in the patio, since I live in a 1st and I don't listen to her. At 4:6 my godfather saw her in front of my house, but since he didn't know if she was mine, he didn't take her. The next day he saw her next to my house at 5, he tried to catch her but nothing. My neighbor heard her meow at 9 in the yard. I put food that he doesn't like and food that he likes and only the meat that he likes disappeared. At 1 o'clock they think they saw her in that same place. The next day at 1 in the morning they saw her a little further under a car but she escaped near my house. At 30:12 a.m. the neighbor heard her meow. At XNUMX noon they saw her in the park that is a little further down. I put up posters but I didn't see it. I'm very worried because you didn't hear her meow tonight. I need it now. I put a blanket for him to strike and guide him. What advice do you give me?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Isis.
I recommend you keep looking for it. From what you count, it is more or less close to the house, so you have to continue the search. In the evening-night is when cats are most active.
Much encouragement. Hope you find it soon.

I wish I could give you an answer, but I just don't know. I don't know where your cat is going because I don't know her.
What I can tell you is that sometimes lost cats go to their old houses, because that's what they know best. But you can't really tell.
I recommend you keep looking for it, both in the area you are in now and in the old one. Put up signs too, and tell the vet and the neighbors.

    HELLO.
I have 26 cats all rescued from the street, as the people around me know that I love animals they always bring me cats, which implies a problem because this situation is very difficult. On Monday when I got home I found a box with a mother and 4 baby kittens, I was not able to leave them there, but since at home I also have a cat that I picked up with 4 babies, I asked my boyfriend to receive it. That night she spent at my house and the next morning I took her to my boyfriend's house with their babies, they were locked in a room by themselves. He spent all of Tuesday well and happy, this morning my brother-in-law entered that room and left the door open and the cat escaped and my boyfriend only noticed it about two hours later. He immediately went out to look for her everywhere and around. We do not understand why she left and left her babies, maybe she would have a home and wanted to return, but what about her babies? It's been more than 10 hours. Now we look for it too. We put a cloth with the scent of their babies on the window. We do not know if he can return because he does not know that house. 🙁 we are sad and worried, what can we do to bring him back? Return?

Well, it has been two days without hearing from her, we have already made rounds asking. She is very fearful and always hides without responding when she sees a stranger, even if it is inside the house ... what else could she do.

It worries me to know, we found him in one of the parking lots of the buildings where we live, could it be that he has a better chance of returning since he had already lived on the street? In addition, there are many cats here, many with owners but they let them out, could it be that they are looking for a partner? Can I put something so I know where your home is?
    Thank you

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Lilliane.
If you came from the street without a doubt yes, you will have a better chance of getting home.
But if you were in heat, you will probably be entertaining yourself looking for a partner.
You can help him find his home by putting out a blanket or piece of clothing that he used as a bed, and go out and find him with his favorite food.

Today 8 days ago my cat has not returned home, he has been sterilized for 9 months, he always went out to two empty lots that are near my house, he turned around and came back or else he stayed on the walls of the house, he He always came in and went out and at night around 7pm when he came home from work he would receive me and come in with me, he would walk through the garden and go to sleep with me, but on Wednesday of last week my mother told me that in the afternoon She did not see him because his food was just as she had put him, I already went out to look for him, I have put up posters and nothing, I hope he comes back he is cute, he got along well with my dog, he played a lot with her, they loved each other a lot, they are like brothers 🙁

Hello, my cat left 6 days ago. He is 9 months old, male and about to be castrated. He always looked out the window and out into the courtyard, until he ran away. The same day that he left after 12 noon, we saw him on the roof of our house but he saw us and ran away (we suppose because we never let him out). At night on our terrace the tuna in its pot appears eaten (even with black hairs the color of their fur). Two houses next to ours, there is a lady who has many cats, but she has not allowed us to enter, arguing that our cat is not there. We look for him in the neighborhood, leaving signs, calling him with his food, and so on. He was always very affectionate with my brother and with me, he was anxiously waiting to see us, very companion. Could it be that it will come back? 🙁
    Thank you very much.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Micaela.
Yes, it can come back. The most likely thing is that he has gone in search of a cat, and when he finishes the most normal thing is for him to return.
      Much encouragement.

Hi Monica, I'm Mercedes, it's my first time with felines and I wanted to know… we have been moving for four days, yesterday afternoon on the third day my cat Ulises, a year and a half neutered, left ksa after the night without returning, as I have been reading in Your Notepad I know I should look for it ... but my question is, will he be able to return here again? ... or will he simply seek to return to the old home, thank you !!!!! I hope this is good !!! I'm very sad

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Mercedes.
As it takes so little time, the truth is that you cannot know if you will know how to arrive alone. In principle, I shouldn't have a problem being guided by the smell, but I can't tell you.
      Much encouragement.

My cat left home on August 10th. Today September 17 he returned ... after more than a month without traces. Hope to those who ever go through this or are going through…. There is a chance that they will return.
Unfortunately I cannot think of closing the doors because I rescued him from the roofs of the house .. we sterilize him, feed him and sleep with us…. I consider that cats are free and independent…. I could not have him locked up so that he does not leave again ...

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Vicky.
We are glad your cat is back. 🙂
Thanks for comment. Surely it helps someone to see that hope is always the last thing to be lost.

Hi! My cat got very strange as soon as my 8-month-old grandson and his 7-month-old brother came to live with their mother. I stop eating and then go away. I call him and he doesn't come even though he has come to the garden every day but he doesn't come home either to eat or to sleep… Are you jealous? Are you resentful of me for paying more attention to my baby grandson?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Chari.
Cats don't like change too much. 🙁
He is not jealous (they do not understand about these issues); he just hasn't gotten used to the new family situation yet.
I recommend you try to make the same case as before. You need it.
If you are in Spain, the Feliway, in diffuser. It will help you to be calmer.

My 11-month-old cat ran away on September 18 and until today, September 22, she has not returned. I go out every day to look for her, I call her by her name, I make her sound her food, and nothing. I put up posters in the neighborhood with her photo and her name and phone number and no one called, no one saw her. She has a dog tag and is neutered. You say that she is coming back? We miss her so much at home :(

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Jimena.
Can't tell 🙁. Hope is the last thing to lose, but it is true that as the days go by it fades a bit. But really, it's not to give you false hope or anything, but there are cats that come back after spending several months away.
You have to keep dating. You have to keep looking, at least as long as you still have (emotional) strength.
Much encouragement. Hope you find it soon.

      Hello Adriana.
I understand you 🙂 But I think the best thing is not to worry excessively; I mean, it's a cat, and it lives like a cat.
If you live in a quiet area or in the countryside, there are not many dangers, but I recommend you put a necklace with a plate that bears your name and your phone number, or buy a necklace with gps so you can know where it is at all times.
      A greeting.

My 7-month-old cat disappeared, we are very distressed, sometimes she would put herself in the window and I think she even went out. This Monday, September 25, apparently the lady who did the cleaning left the door open, some of my neighbors told me that they saw him sitting in the park that is 2m from my house, after he had stayed with the guard until the hours of the morning ... then we don't know anything ... we have posted hundreds of posters, I admit that I am desperate, but I do not want to give up, I don't even know if he could have gone after a cat, he is medium, I do not know if he is already in age of that, I miss him a lot ... I don't want to lose faith.

We have two sibling kittens (male and female), who are barely 3 months old. In the morning the neighbor's cat came and apparently they fought because there was blood. But what worries us the most is that pepe (the male) does not appear. Will he not return? Or that he is hiding because he is hurt? We are very worried…

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Fernando.
I'm sorry, but I can't tell you if they'll come back or not. You have to go looking for them, every day. Most likely they are close to home.

I can't help getting too sensitive just by looking at the posters we put up ... it's almost going to be a lost week, I don't want to give up ... but I don't want to be depressed all the time either, more than anything because here is "Michi", his partner of games I have noticed its absence ...

I did her as she had to return to the apartment in the city. a super hut and some night he slept outside .. he always came back first thing in the morning .. the idea was that a neighbor would give him food and water every day and I go every weekend but I didn't get to go to the flat and 2 days she disappeared ... I am super upset ... I do not care that she is free but if I wanted to know that she is well ... she is very curious, rebellious and affectionate ... I hope one day I will see her again ...

Hi! I have 3 cats (you can say adults) one is the mother and two are her babies, they are used to going out and returning home at will, they have never left for more than a day. But less than a week ago we brought a new kitten about 2 months old and now they have not wanted to enter the house. Since yesterday they have not come to breakfast and they always came… I don't know what to do, I worry that they will spend the night outside and that they will stay away from us, I really feel horrible that they are like this, I need help.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Andrea.
I recommend you have them at home, at four, about 3-4 days. For the first 2-3 days, keep the kitten inside a room, and go swapping the beds. From the third to fourth day, take her out of there so she can be with the others. See how they react.
If you see that they snort, it is normal, even that they want to "kick" themselves.
Offer them wet cat food at 4 o'clock at the same time, and give them affection. Little by little, over time, they will end up accepting or, at least, tolerating.
      Cheer up.

I hope with all my heart that it returns I just spent the night without it and I could not close my eye to be aware if he returned, I already went to look for him in the surroundings and nothing :(

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Fernanda.
It is very hard to watch the hours go by and not hear from your cat. I've been through that many times, and I'm sure there will still be many more.
But you really can't do more than I say in the article. Expect. Go out to look for it, early in the morning and especially at dusk. Call them out loud (sometimes they are so focused on something in particular that they don't pay attention to anything else).

Really, a lot of encouragement. Hope you find it soon. Anyway, you have to know that it is still too early to think of the worst. Stray cats, even neutered, leave for even 3 days. Do not lose hope.

It is terribly easy to say, but very difficult to do, but you cannot do more: you have to go out to look for them, early in the morning and in the evening. Put up posters and, ultimately, follow the advice in the article.

Try to stick with the routine. It will help distract you even for a few minutes. That time is necessary to be able to gather strength and move forward.

Or remember my house and me? I have not stopped thinking about him and the one who eats

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello July.
It may come back, but if it is five months old or older, it will likely take a little longer. At this age it is advisable to castrate them because otherwise they are looking for a partner.
Go out and find him, and give him food anyway. Maybe I'll be back soon.

      Hi Naty.
First of all: they should not hit cats, or any animal.
I'm sorry your cat has left home. But hitting them is not the solution to the problem.
When a cat leaves or is lost, you have to go looking for it as I explain in the article.

On the morning of this Thursday my brother went out with my cat in his transporter to remove the stitches from the sterilization that she had last week. Along the way (about a block from where I live) he got away. He said that he saw what house he got into, so we decided to ask the owner and he very kindly allowed us to access. Unfortunately it was not there. We asked a neighboring house where we suspect he is currently but they did not allow us to enter. I just want to know if with my voice he can return home since I feel that if I shout at him from my rooftop he can hear me at night. I hope you can solve my question.

Good afternoon my cat was lost on November 07, today November 26 and still does not appear. Once he was lost like 3 days and this is the second time he has escaped. He always went out the back door of the house and sometimes looked at some neighboring kittens and fought constantly with the cats at night and the next day he would arrive bitten on the face and scratched. It will be that my cat is going to return, it did not allow itself to be caught by anyone, it is approximately 3 and a half years old. He is white, male, with a mark on his forehead as if it were a black mustache, very spoiled and the lump of the cat was left open so that he could eat as he liked. My brother adored him and is missing him a lot, I don't understand why he left if he was like family, he even went to bed where he liked, nobody forbade him anything and we caressed him all the time

HELLO, my kitten got lost on Friday afternoon. The truth is that he got a little jealous that day because I was with a friend that he didn't know and he got loaded that he wanted to be on my legs and I told him to get off. After that has not returned? It's been 3 days and he had never lost more than a day and a half. It is exaggeratedly fancy and is used to going in and out of the window. We live in the same sector
For 3 years (he is 4) and there are no cars around here. I am terribly distraught and cannot imagine my life without him, since we are both
No more, for each other? ☹️?

I have a question, I have 2 baby kittens that have just turned two months old, the last time I saw them around 6 in the afternoon they were sleeping under my bed but now I can't find them anywhere in the house, I noticed In the yard but it is already very dark I do not hear their meows either, I know that my dogs did not go because they did not have any trace that the kittens were attacked; if they left they would go very far because it is like 11 now and I have to go to sleep So I look for them tomorrow, I already tried with the mother of the kittens but no matter how much the mother will call them they do not appear

      Hello Breeze.
Try to attract their attention with sound toys or food (better if it is wet). They may have been hiding in a corner that you haven't looked yet (my cat sometimes does that).
      A greeting.

What could have happened if my kitten of approximately 12 and a half years, who is domestic, is sterilized and has an abscess or tumor disappeared from the backyard of the house

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello, Luz.
You may have been frightened by something, or you may have just been curious to go out.
In any case, I recommend you go out and look for it every day.
      Good luck and encouragement.

Hello. My cat is 1 year old and neutered, we neutered her at about 8 months. After a few months of being castrated, we let her out through a window, and today she goes out whenever she wants, and sometimes she doesn't even go out, she usually goes out for about 5 hours and at night ALWAYS, ALWAYS comes back. I think it's already a habit, and I think it's great. But I do not know if it is the safest thing for her to go out, should I let her out, or put a mosquito net or something that blocks the exit?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Santino.
That is a very personal decision. If you go through areas where you are not in danger, perfect, since the stimuli that can be found on the street will not be found inside the house. On the contrary, if you live in a city or a big town, then it is best not to let her out.
      A greeting.

My kitten has disappeared 4 days ago, on Tuesday he still appeared by my house and left at 11 o'clock here, he always usually comes at 5 o'clock on time but he did not come and 4 days have already passed, it worries me too much, I have become very fond of him and I am very sad, I hope that he is in heat and that he returns: c

      Hi Karina.
If he is not neutered, he has probably gone looking for a mate.
Still, I recommend you follow the advice in the article to find it.
      A greeting.

I tell you my experience. I have two cats, mother and daughter and we live in a ground floor urbanization. Cats like to doze during the day and go out at night, so we teach them to follow us to take small nocturnal rounds around the urbanization and the surroundings for small tasks around the house such as taking out the garbage etc. That helps them get to know the neighborhood and know how to return home. In this way, when they go on a night walk (which they almost always do) they explore and get to know their surroundings to know how to return whenever they want. A few days ago one of them left at night and did not return. For 5 days we looked for her throughout the neighborhood to no avail. On the sixth day she appeared so calm. I encourage everyone who is waiting for their pet to return.

I did not adopt a 5-year-old cat, 5 months ago and for family reasons I had to travel to the field field because I could not find someone to leave it with and I could not leave it alone for more than 15 days, I made the decision to take it with me and on the second day of being In the field he got scared and the current came out, he lost me even though we looked for him, he did not appear, I went out every night to call him and nothing, I had to return to the city I had to leave him, he has been lost for more than 15 days and I feel guilty and I have cried I am very sorry that I abandoned him and that he is suffering because of me, I really miss him, I don't have the hope that he will appear and bring him with me again

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Stella.
Don't feel guilty: you did what you thought was convenient, which was to take him with you.

I would recommend putting signs around the area where you last saw it, and notify the veterinarians there to see if they have seen it.

      Much encouragement.
