The cat is a very curious feline, and because it is so, it can sometimes get into places where it could be in danger. Keeping it at home therefore requires taking a series of security measures whose objective is to protect our dear friend but without depriving him of fun.
Whether the furry is very calm or if on the contrary he is nervous, we have to know how to keep the cat away from danger. There are various situations you will find yourself in throughout your life, and some of them may be more damaging than others.
What dangers are there at home?
The cat that lives at home will spend several minutes a day exploring its territory over and over again. We as humans are imperfect. What does this mean? Well, no matter how good memory we have, sometimes we can leave potentially dangerous objects on the table, other furniture or the floor that the cat might want to use to play, such as ropes, bows, tiny balls, or anything else light that any cat could lift. All of these things we have to keep them in a drawer so that no problems arise. In addition, they should not be toxic plants no toxic products at your fingertips.
But we can't forget about cables either. We live in an increasingly technological world, and of course, our homes are full of cables. The computer, the television, the microwave, ... practically everything we use daily at home is electric. Those of us who live with felines we have to wrap the wire with something, like drip tubes used in landscaping or cardboard.
And what about the windows? An open window, especially if you live on a second floor (or higher) it can be the difference between having a live cat and a dead cat. I'm sorry to say it like that, but it's the harsh reality. There are many cats that have the parachute cat syndrome, and suffer the consequences for it. In milder cases, your fractures will take only a few weeks to heal, but in more severe cases, your life could be in danger. That's why Before taking the animal to the house we have to protect all the windows with a protective net for cats that we will find for sale in any pet store.
And abroad?
Urban environment
When you live in a city or a very populated town, you should not let the cat go outside, as it is very likely that it will not survive more than 1 or 2 years. The dangers are many and varied: cars, bad people who treat animals fatally, poisons, diseases, ... The risk of being lost and / or dying is so high that, really, I insist, if you love your furry do not let him leave the house under any circumstances.
Rural environment
When you live in the countryside, on the outskirts of a town or in a village, the cat can play the life of a cat; that is, you can go out for a walk because the dangers you will encounter are minimal. Minimal, but also dangerous: poisons, bad people (hunters), dogs or other large animals.
For all these reasons, we only have to let it out if we know for sure that we are in a safe area. And even so, if we have doubts it will always be better to teach walk with harness from puppy, or even buy a stroller (not kidding) for small animals, which would be like a carrier on wheels.
My experience
I live almost on the outskirts of a town of about 4 thousand inhabitants. The street was one of the quietest, but in recent times, with the population growth as more and more cars pass by; not many, but they happen more than before. In December 2017 they ran over one of my cats, to Bicho, a panther who was eight months old at the time.
Although it took him about a month to walk well again, that is, it was nothing so serious that he could not heal himself, made me rethink whether or not to let my cats out when I achieved independence. You see, one of my dreams is to move to live in a country house. Until that moment I was convinced that I would let my cats go outside, there are five of them, because the idea I had was to buy one whose plot was fenced off. But after what happened, I have become more overprotective.
I know when the day comes it's going to take a lot for them to adjust, but when we move they won't see the outside anymore. For your own good. I want them to live all the years they have to live, to die of old age and not for a car or anything else. For all this, I ask that before letting your friend go, think about it, meditate on it. Evaluate the pros and cons, and think that a single "against" could take your cat from you.
