The cat is very curious about everything around him. If you have permission to go abroad, your time will be spent researching and exploring your domains; and if you don't have it, you will sit or lie by the window to observe what is going on out there. And outside, as we know, there are birds, insects and other small animals that the feline might want to hunt.
Unless we have it closed or we have put a net, the risk of it falling is very high, because the felis catus landlord may have what is known as the parachute cat syndrome.
What is parachute cat syndrome?
The cat has the extraordinary ability to fall on its four legs, since its weight is distributed symmetrically and harmonically in such a way that the center of gravity coincides with the geometric center of its body. This allows you to land in a suitable position, but they do not always succeed.
Those who they have rushed into the void and have not been able to correct their posture or that in their fall they have hit clotheslines or other objects, are the ones that vets say have parachute cat syndrome.
Is there any way to prevent it?
Yes, in fact, there are several:
- Neutering the animal: a neutered cat, male or female, will have less interest in going outside and, therefore, the risk of falling into the void will be much lower.
- Put net on windows and terraces: If we want you to be able to see what is happening outside, it is very important to put nets to prevent it from going out that we will find in pet stores.
- Have the windows closed: for your safety.
Living with a cat is a wonderful experience, but it is very important to protect it.
They are very special. 🙂
