Why do our cats keep hunting?

The kitten hunts by instinct

Although our cats have everything they need (and, sometimes, more) if they have the opportunity to go outside they will not hesitate to behave as what they are: hunters. In fact, it is not uncommon for them to bring the occasional "gift" in the form of a dead bird or rodent home.

It is a curious behavior, since in principle it should not do this when having food at its free disposal. But and then Why do our cats keep hunting?

Cats follow their instincts

Cats, from their origins, have evolved to hunt since they are carnivores. If they want to survive, they must be able to trap other animals, in their case, small birds and rodents, in order to continue living. This is well known to all pregnant cats or cats that have just given birth: as soon as the little ones start walking and running, about a month and a half, they teach them to stalk and catch their possible prey.

In this way, as much as we want to avoid being brought home unpleasant surprises, we will have no choice but to accept it; Not in vain, they are only doing what their mothers did with them: bringing them food so they don't go hungry and, incidentally, trying to pass on that hunting knowledge to us.

Don't attract birds to your garden

For their own good: if you have cats that go outside or in the garden do not attract birds or feed them, more than anything because if we do it, it is most likely that they will have a sad end under the claws and teeth of our felines. So another thing we can do is put scarecrows; in this way we will be able to keep them safe.
