There is no denying it: when the cat is freshly bathed, it smells wonderful. But we can't forget that it is a very clean animal, who spends a good part of the day grooming themselves, and therefore does not need to bathe as often as a dog.

Still, if you would like to enjoy the experience, in this article I will explain when to start bathing a cat.

At what age can you start bathing?

The kitten will enjoy a nice bath from two months of age. Before it is not recommended, since you will not yet control your body temperature well enough, and you could catch cold without us noticing; And even so, with eight weeks it is very important that, if we are in winter, we put the bathroom heating on half an hour before to avoid problems.

What does it take to bathe a cat?

Before taking the feline to the bathroom, we have to prepare a series of things that we will need, which are:

  • Basin, or something wide to put the animal in.
  • Warm water, which is about 37ºC.
  • Cat shampoo.
  • Towel.
  • Hair dryer.
  • (Optional): Rubber gloves.

How do you bathe?

Now that we have everything ready, we will call the cat with a cheerful tone of voice, and when it arrives we will give it a cat treat for having come to our call. Afterwards, we will introduce it into the basin or what we have decided will be your bathtub gently, and then we will give you another treat.

If you stay calm, We will put a little shampoo on his back, and giving him massages we will clean him well. We remove the foam with water, we dry it first with the towel and then with the dryer, and we will have a furry ready so that it can continue sleeping.

In the event that you are visibly nervous, meow in a low tone of voice, We will take it out and try again the next day. We must never force him to do anything he does not want, as he could end up scratching and / or biting us.
