When you live with a cat, you become so fond of it that just thinking that one day we might be separated from it hurts us a lot. Our cat is not our pet, it is part of our family. He is a member of it, and we do not want anything bad to happen to him.
However much we avoid it, accidents sometimes happen. Because we are human, and no human being is perfect. Maybe the day will come when we have to wonder what to do if my cat is lost. If we get to that situation, we can follow these tips.
Try to stay calm
Waiting is horrible. Thoughts haunt you and questions just pile up. Where is he, how is he, when will he return ... It is an experience that, in addition to being terribly painful, can be very costly. But you have to try to keep your mind as cold as possible, because it is the only way we can think clearly.
When my cats leave, what I do is:
- If the cat had already gone out before, I wait 24 hours. Why? Because he may have been playing with another cat. If he hasn't come back, the next day I start putting up posters.
- If the cat had never been outside, I go looking for it immediately. Why? Because it may have been lost.
Go find it
Once it has been confirmed that the cat has been lost, the search must begin. To do this, you have to do a few things:
- Put up posters of »'WANTED» with a photo of the cat and our data. It is also important to offer a financial reward, as this will help more people.
- Notify the vet and neighbors so they are aware in case they see it.
- We will go out to look for him in the afternoons, which is when cats are most active. Starting our route going to the places closest to home and then to the farthest places where we think it could be.
Call it
We do not have to be ashamed to call our cat out loud. If it's lost you have to know that we have gone out to look for you, and you will not know if we do not say your name. In addition to calling you, we can take a can (wet cat food) to attract your attention.
