While all cats, regardless of their sex, are very territorial, females tend to be somewhat calmer. The males, on the other hand, can get to fight, especially if there is a female in heat. For this reason it is important that, if we already have a young cat living with a cat at home, we make sure that fights will not take place; in other words, If we plan to bring a second male cat, it is advisable to take the female to be sterilized or neutered to avoid upset, which can be done from 6 months of age.
In the event that you only have one male cat and you want to bring another so that you have a friend to play with, we also have to take a series of measures, which are the following:
- Socialize them little by little: during the first 3-5 days we will leave the "new" cat in a room and we will exchange the litter box or the bed; then we will let them be seen and smelled, each one on one side of the baby barrier; and only later, when they are curious and not snorting or growling, will we remove the barrier.
- Do not leave cats alone at any time, until they have become friends, that is, until we see that they spend time together.
