Siberian Forest, better known as the siberian catIt is an intelligent and ingenious breed that appears to be distant but is always loyal to its owner.
According to legend, the Siberian forest cats lived in Russian monasteries, where they patrolled the ceiling beams looking for intruders. Although they were fierce, the monks treated them as loving and loyal companions. Until the years 80 a serious breeding program was not started to standardize the type. Although they have been imported into the US since 1990, so far the TICA is the only major association that recognizes the breed.
The Siberian forest has a dense and thick mantle, designed to withstand a harsh climate. It was believed that he was staying in Russian monasteries, where the monks took care of him in exchange for guarding the buildings.
Appearance
This large and robust cat has a broad head, a slightly rounded full muzzle and a well rounded chin. It has large oval eyes and medium ears with a rounded tip. The inner part of the ear has many tufts. The legs are strong and of medium length, and the paws are large, round and tufted. The tail is of medium length, bushy and with a rounded tip. US bloodlines now tend to diverge somewhat from the traditional look, becoming more rounded rather than angular, like the bobcat. The Siberian forest cat is bred in a wide range of varieties, and the tabby, tortoise, and bicolor are relatively common. Smoke and solid color are also seen.
Manto
The top layer is strong, plush and oily, to ensure it survives in the harshest conditions. The undercoat is dense enough to provide excellent protection against the elements, and thickens in cold climates.
