Punishments for cats: are they useful?

Cat

Since the cat began to live with humans in their homes, the relationship between the two has grown closer and closer. In doing so, the furry has been getting used to our customs, something unusual considering that it is a feline and that they always try to stay away from people.

Coexistence problems, of course, arise, hence why people have tried, and are still trying, to mold the character of these animals to transform them into increasingly social beings. But, Are punishments for cats any use?

Who else who least knows how cats were punished before: hitting them with a newspaper when it was not with the hand, spraying them with water, or even rubbing their mouths for their needs when they did them in places that they did not touch in order to teach them that they didn't have to do them there. Well, are they any use? The truth is that they only serve to make the cat fear.

The feline does not understand punishment as we would understand it, among other things because it is often punished when a long time has passed after it did something wrong. What's more, nothing can be learned when they try to teach you with something that scares or scares you in itself, as cats are afraid of water. You can scare him, but you will hardly teach him to behave like that.

So how do you punish him? Or, rather, how do you teach him to behave? Forever respecting the animal, and understanding why it does what it does. He may be bored and try to get your attention to spend time with him, or he may be a restless puppy who needs a scratching post to sharpen his nails.
