The microchip in cats is not yet well known, since in many places it is still not mandatory, in fact, if we talk about Spain it only is in Andalusia, Cantabria, Madrid, Catalonia and Galicia. However, this small capsule implanted in the back of the neck (usually on the left side) It is a tool that can be very useful if we have lost our beloved cat, since thanks to the code with your personal data that is associated with it, included in the microchip, the veterinarian can know who is responsible for this animal. This information is recorded in the pet census, which in the case of Spain is the Spanish Network of Companion Animals (REIAC).
It is a small object, barely 0,5cm, that does not cause any kind of annoyance to the cat, and that does not need any battery to work. The cat will not feel anything neither when they put it on, nor afterwards, and you can stay a little calmer / a. Its price is between 35 and 50 euros.
Thanks to the microchip and the detector, the animal can be reunited with its family, and in turn, its loved ones can demonstrate that this cat is indeed theirs. But ... is it really effective? Depends. For it to be, it is mandatory that the person who meets an animal takes it to the veterinarian and that he passes the detector.
The problem is that this rarely happens. So that it is always better to also put a necklace with an identification plate with your phone, since the plate, unlike the microchip, is seen with the naked eye. Thus, the risk of losing it is minimal.
