Is it possible to tame a furry that has not had contact with humans? The reality is, no. But other felines live on the street who once had a family and who need help. Discover how to tame a wild cat.

What is a feral cat?

First of all, it is important to know what is a feral cat. As much as we want to help and protect them, there is a type of feline that we will be of more help to if we simply leave it in a safe place, outside, than if, on the contrary, we decide to take it home. The feral cat does not want to live within four walls. He wants to be free.

It is an animal that has not lived with a human family and therefore does not know what it is but does not want to know. For him, humans pose a danger, except for the one who brings him food. It is very important to keep this in mind every time we want to tame a wild cat and keep in mind that the feral only want to live in freedom.

Cat eating

Once we have located a cat that is not so quickly scared of humans and even approaches them for attention, we will have to earn their trust through food. Living on the streets, this animal has many problems finding food, much more than feral ones, so it is not surprising that they are starving or very thin.

The ideal food for this purpose is wet (cans). We will open a can, show it to him and then put the contents in a trough. Afterward, we'll walk a few feet away so you don't feel intimidated. When it's done, we'll take the plate and leave, but we'll come back at the same time every day and do the exact same thing.

So more sooner rather than later he will associate us with something positive (the food), and we can stay closer and closer to him until a day comes when he will let us caress him. Later, when he is already affectionate with us, we can take him and carry him with the carrier.

Important: if it is a kitten you have to be quick. We will attract him with food and put him in the carrier or cage to take him either to his new home or to a shelter. We must do the same if it is a young or adult cat that we suspect has recently been abandoned. These animals don't have much of a chance of surviving on the street.
