How to put a baby cat to sleep

American shorthair

Seeing a furry sleeping is one of the best moments of the day. After he has finished eating and has done his business, the little one will rest easy for a few hours ... until his stomach complains again.

One of the questions we ask ourselves the most when caring for orphaned felines is, precisely, how to sleep a baby cat. Actually, it is much easier than it seems, but it is true that sometimes the little one has a hard time falling asleep. Let's see how to help you.

The baby kitten needs a series of care so that it can grow and develop correctly, as we told you in this article. Until he is one month old, he depends a lot on his mother or, in this case, someone who takes care of him, since he cannot regulate his body temperature, he does not control his urination or bowel movements, and he cannot feed himself without help. Knowing this, if we hear him cry or if he finds it difficult to sleep, it is because something happens to him, for example:

  • He is cold: It is important to ensure that it is kept at a temperature of around 37ºC, for example by putting thermal bottles wrapped with a cloth so that it does not burn.
  • He is hungry: if it is in its first week of life, it should eat 2 to 5ml every 2 / 3h; if he is in the second, it will be 5 to 10ml every 3h, and if he is in his third or fourth, he should eat between 10 and 15ml every 3h except at night that we will leave him sleeping (obviously, if he complains, you have to give him) . The milk must be specific for kittens, and be warm.
  • You have to relieve yourself: After each feeding, her genital area must be stimulated to urinate and defecate. We will do this by moistening toilet paper or cotton with warm water, and passing it over the area, using a new and clean one for each area.
  • He misses his mother and siblings: If the kitten has been separated from its mother too early, for example at a month of life, it will miss both her and her brothers. To help him, we have to spend a lot of time with him, giving him warmth and affection.

If you still can't get the little one to sleep, you should take him to the vet as he could be sick.
