How to play with a kitten

Kitten playing

The furry one, that young feline animal that likes to move, run, and be very active while awake. Having it at home is an incredible experience, since there are no dull days. He always makes you smile or makes you laugh with his antics. But, How to play with a kitten?

When it comes to having fun together, we must be very careful with the movements we make and with the game itself, since it is an animal with a fragile body that learns by imitation, and also has an excellent memory.

Much more than a game

The kitten, even if it is small, will eventually be an adult. It grows at a much faster rate than we do, since at six to eight months most of the breeds - except the large ones such as the Maine Coon or the Siberians that take a little longer - have almost finished their physical development. During its first months of life, the feline goes to play with his siblings or with his human family for two reasons: to have fun and to become a predator.

This is something that we must take into account. The cat, in its natural state, hunts animals to survive. Therefore, the game of his earliest childhood is very important. With it, he must learn to stalk, catch, and bite with the necessary force, otherwise he will not survive.

Although it is true that if you live at home with a good family you do not have to worry about anything, you cannot fight against genetics.

Precautions to take when playing with a kitten

I am not an expert by any means, but after having lived with several cats throughout my life, and because I currently live with 4 of them, one being a kitten, I can say that in order to make the game fun for both parties - feline and human-, you have to do the following:

  • Never use your hands or feet: the kitten, especially if it is very young, will want to bite absolutely everything. It may not hurt you, but if you let it bite you, it will continue to do so as an adult. Therefore, you should always put a toy between you and the animal, always. In case he wants to bite you, stop the game and get him off the couch (or wherever he is).
  • Do not make sudden movements: with the sudden movements what will be achieved is that the kitten has either more desire to bite, or fear.
  • Keep dangerous objects (sharp, toxic) away from him: It's very important. The kitten runs very fast, and when it does, it is not as careful as an adult does, so it could hurt itself. In addition, he is very curious, so much so that he is dedicated to exploring everything in the house on a daily basis. In the event there is a new plant, you will likely come close to, at the very least, smell it.
  • You have to avoid yelling: the furry has a much more developed sense of hearing than ours, to the point that it can hear the sound of a mouse from 7 meters away. If we yell, we will scare him.
