How to identify a tabby cat

Tabby

El tabby, also known as roman cat, is one of the most common feline animals that we can find in the streets and in the fields around the world. He has a wild appearance, but a charming look, so much so that many of us have fallen in love with this beautiful furry man.

But How to identify a tabby cat from the rest?

Physical characteristics

This precious cat differs from the others for several reasons:

  • General aspect: it is robust, muscular, with wide and strong legs. The tail is long, measuring a little more than half its body. Their eyes are separated from each other, and they are usually green or yellowish-green. The ears are well proportioned, stand erect, and end in a rounded point.
  • Fur: it is of different shades of gray (from lighter to darker, black lines can be seen). It is brindle, presenting this pattern throughout its body, being more visible on the back, head and legs.
  • Distinctive features: if there is something that really confirms that we are dealing with a tabby cat, it is the »M» that can be seen on its forehead.

"Salud"

Mestizos do not usually have any serious health problems. It is common to see them living on the streets, and if someone gives them food and castrates them, they can live for several years without having any problem. On the other hand, those who are of race, they may have diseases of their own breedSuch as Persians can be affected by polycystic kidney disease.

But regardless of race, whenever we suspect that they are not well, we must take them to the vetas otherwise it could prove fatal.

What is their behavior?

Although it cannot be generalized, since each cat is a world with its own character, from experience I can say that they are very affectionate. They are always looking for you to give them affection (or some can 🙂), and they keep you a lot of company. Of course, like all felines, they are very territorial, but following the socialization guidelines that we discuss in this article, in a few days they will accept their new partner.

And you, do you live or have you lived with a tabby cat?
