Can two male cats living in the same house get along? That is a question that normally very few people ask themselves, since they have the preconceived idea that the answer is and always will be negative. Reasons are not lacking: when these animals live on the street and know that there is a cat in heat, they will fight over her.
But the truth is that it is not an impossible task for two male cats to get along, if some measures are taken so that both furry men start their relationship with good foot.
How to present two cats?
The cat that is kept at home dedicates part of its time to rubbing itself over things, furniture, people, ... in short, for everything that it considers its own or that is part of its family. In doing so, it leaves its own body odor, an odor that is different from that of the new furry. For this reason, presentations have to be done little by little so that the feline that we already had gets used to the presence of the other.
How do you do that? Very easy: introducing the »new» cat in a room with food, water, a litter box and a bed that we will have covered with a blanket or cloth. We will do the same with the bed of the »old» cat. For about three to four days, we will be exchanging the blankets or fabrics. After that time, we will let them see each other, if possible behind a protective barrier for babies.
If we see that they show curiosity, that is, If you smell each other or if you want to touch, we will remove the barrier. But if they growl and their hair stands on end, we'll keep them separate until the next day.
What to do to make them get along?
It is fundamental that we give them a lot of love to both, and that from time to time, give them cans of wet feed or other food they love. In this way, little by little both of you will feel good at home, something that will help both the »old» cat and the »new one, who may soon want to play.
Another thing we have to do is take them to castrate. Cats are very territorial, and if there is an "intruder" in your house they will fight him. With castration, we will avoid these conflicts, both for the territory and for zeal, thus making coexistence much more pleasant for everyone. Of course, once castrated, we will keep them apart for a dayBecause having been to the clinic, the animal smells like a vet, and there is nothing that stresses them more than going there. After 24 hours they will be themselves again and will be able to get together again.
As we can see, two male cats can get along 🙂.
