One of the most endearing moments when living with a cat is when with that sweet look he asks you to take him in your arms. It is very beautiful, since allows you to bond with your furry friend making the friendship stronger every day.
But if it is the first time that we live with one, we may have many doubts about how to catch a cat correctly. If we do it wrong, we can get a claw and / or a bite, so to avoid it I will tell you how to handle a domestic cat.
Picking up a kitten (less than 6 months old)
At this age we can take him like his mother, that is, grabbing it by the back of the neck so that our fingers act as if they were tweezers, taking only skin. The body of the young feline weighs little, but it must be taken into account that it is very fragile, so we could do it a lot of damage if we do not do it well.
In addition, it is very important to hold it with your free hand, placing it just below its hind legs. But still, you don't have to keep it that way for long: just 2 minutes or less.
Catching an adult cat
The adult cat, due to its weight, should not be caught by the neck. In this case, what can be done is to take it as if it were a human baby, that is, putting our hands in his armpits, bringing him closer until he is lying down with his legs resting on the shoulder, and holding him with the free hand placed on his hind legs.
Thus, we can have it for as long as we want, or rather, until he wants to 🙂. This is a position that does not cause you any harm, so we do not have to worry about anything.
I hope that now it is easier for you to catch your furry.
