Cat or cat? What differences are there?

Orange cat on the street

Once the decision has been made to start living with a furry one, the next question to answer is the following: male or female? All cats are very special in themselves, one of a kind. Although they all have common characteristics, the reality is that there are some small differences that will make us opt for one or the other. But wich ones?

In this special we will tell you How does the behavior of a cat differ from that of a cat? to make it easier for you to choose your new partner.

Cat playing with feather duster

Before starting it is important that you know that the education the animal receives will influence its future behavior. Thus, if he receives affection and attention from the first day he arrives home, it is most likely that as an adult he likes to be in company with human beings; On the other hand, if it is ignored or mistreated, it will be an animal that will live in fear, and can even be aggressive towards people.

That said, let's now go on to see the differences between a cat and a cat.

Cat behavior

Male cat

Cats in the wild or living on the street spend a large part of their time roaming their territory, and only come together with females when they are in heat or to eat. They are not usually very sociable; so much so that if they have never had contact with humans, it is normal for them to flee from them. But, Is this the proper character of the male?

To verify this, I was monitoring my cat Benji, who at the time of writing this article was 2 years old. He has been raised at home with great affection, thanks to this he has become a very sociable adult cat, especially with other cats. However, he likes to spend time alone, circling the field. In total he spends about two hours enjoying the outdoors, and during that time no matter how much you call him he doesn't come, unless he's hungry. Of course, unlike those in the neighborhood, he always stays on the same street.

Alert cat

Based on this and what I have been able to verify over the years, male cats can be very affectionate, but they will always want to be alone for a while. You could say that they are a little more independent; not much, but it is true that when you live with a cat and a cat as the days go by you can get to notice it.

If we talk about whether or not they are active, usually they are enougheven once they are adults. They enjoy hunting games, so anything they can pick up with their paws, nibble, or throw on the ground… they will.

Of course, there are exceptions, but I can tell you that I am currently taking care of 5 male cats, of which one is Benji, and of them there is only 1 that breaks that rule.

Cat behavior

Cat lying down

Cats in the wild or those that have been raised in the street are also very elusive, but remain in groups of 3-6 females. They spend time alone, but they never get too far from the othersThis way they better protect their territory and will not hesitate to kick out cats that get too close.

Now, are house cats like this? To verify this, I was also observing one of my cats, this time Keisha, a 5-year-old female who has been raised at home since she was 2 months old. He is very sociable, but with people. She does not usually like very much that the furry people of the colony are the ones who take the initiative to approach her, but she prefers to be the one who goes towards them. And yet this is something he rarely does: he usually ignores them. She unlike Benji spend a lot of time at home; so much so that in total he spends 1h or less abroad.

It is often thought that cats are much calmer than cats, as far as I have been able to verify this is the case. Each cat is unique, be it male or female, and in fact both men and women have our differences that make us who we are, just like the furry ones. But the genre to which it belongs is only part of what it is; does not make up the total, the Being.

Cat in the garden

Depending on the education you receive, the treatment you are given, the environment in which you live, whether or not you live on the street, among many other factors, the cat will be more or less sociable.

Another point to take into account is the sterilization. The 'whole' cats, whether male or female, during the mating season will act according to their instincts: while the former can be aggressive, the female cats will become much more affectionate than usual. On the contrary, cats that have been operated on will not have heat, but it is very likely that they will calm down, that they will become calmer and more sedentary.

As we can see, there are many factors that will influence the behavior of your friend, but what will help him the most to be the furry one you want so much will undoubtedly be the love that you give.

I did not know that cats with their meows seem to speak to you, I have a one-year-old cat they gave me one month old, I have raised him all day with me, if and everything he brought me to work in his basket everyone and the happy, but summer came and for fear that he would look out of the windows and fall, since the windows do not have supports, leave him at home, with a field to move, in the windows a mesh so that he can see the street and being sunbathing and waiting for me by the way, and a terrace where he can be disturbed, and be happy, he used to relieve himself in a toilet with a gadget to sell with a little sand, I daily take that away sand if it has gotten wet, it's a kiss, he wants nothing more than me to hug him, I don't have a cat, I have a dog, I'm still at home everywhere, and I already say speaking his miamiau, it's a love with bitches I have they play, and he washes his face, sleeps on top of them, there is one thing that I do not see very normal since I was a child in a c He mulles it and sucks on it as if it were his mother, and then he lies down, one day I washed it and scold me, with his miaumiau. I already say that it is charlatan, I do not know if it will be all the cats,

Holis ... good afternoon. I have had the wonderful happiness of adopting three kittens, the first we call her Clin, a beautiful Siamese who accidentally ate rat poison and died 🙁 it was not easy to resign ourselves to her loss since it was my partner who gave her to me .. Clin was very independent I never remember caressing her, she used to touch us all at home with her tail, she died of 3 months. As the months passed, another female kitten came to our site by chance too, we immediately adopted her, we called her Luna, she was beautiful, affectionate like all of us at home, we love her so much that she was allowed to stay at home all day to sleep in our bed. ... totally domesticated ... I loved it very much because she allowed herself to be bathed by and allowed herself to do whatever I wanted, the spoiled of the house because apart from her we also have at home a dog named Aurora and a male named Terry, Luna got along well with both, even more so with aurora, both clinics who were the first to arrive as the moon, they slept with aurora as sisters ... without a doubt a tenderness, our life was very happy with the arrival of the moon, because after a while it was already approaching its zeal and we decided to sterilize her ... I tell you that we had better never even imagine that possibility. moon after the operation only lasted 3 days…. It was the most traumatic and painful thing we have ever felt in our lives. We never thought that could happen ... my love and devotion for cats is so much that the day after losing her they gave me one and right away I took her in my arms and brought her home, we all called her cindy excitedly, obviously I never occupy the place of the moon Nor have we tried to replace the others only that every time we looked into the eyes of cindy we remember Clin and Luna. Cindy, like each one of us humans, had her own character and her very particular personality ... playful at times, loving, mistress of her actions, she adopted canine attitudes because when she shared with aurora and terry something that the others never did. she was totally different from all of them…. aggressive on many occasions but charming. the sad and painful story is that just when I turn three months the same and unfortunately as the others I go out on any given morning as I usually give him his food and his vitamin and nothing that appears ………… we look for it everywhere, in the solar surroundings neighbors among others and nothing that appears ... without a doubt our hearts are devastated by so much pain. is it simply that we are not lucky to adopt kittens ??? it's very sad you know? Cindy has already been missing for about two weeks, we still cry and remember her in every corner of this house. We only pray to God that if it was stolen or escaped that it is in good hands, with noble beings like us or at least it is safe in the hands of God's protection. In three weeks God through my veterinarian will give us a kitten…. We hope in almighty god this time if we are lucky and can accompany us for many years…. God bless you.

Hi, how are you? I have reviewed many articles on the page and I liked it a lot, I am a newcomer to kittens and I would like you to help me solve some things. I know how to determine if it is a kitten or a kitten, besides that he likes to climb up my legs while I do my chores and it hurts a lot I do not know how to make him stop doing it, it would be very helpful for me some advice in advance, thank you very much! I have loved the page! 🙂

      Hello Dalia.
Thanks for your words, and congratulations on your kitty! 🙂
Teaching him not to scratch you is easy, although it takes time lol It is simply a matter of picking him up, taking him to another room and playing with him for a little while, always with a toy, never with his hands.
To find out if it is male or female, in this article We explain it to you.
      A greeting.

Hello everybody! I need advice, I have a one-year-old male cat and I rescued him at 30 days old in very bad conditions, today he is a beautiful cat but he has a very special character, I would like someone to tell me his experience about whether it is positive to find him a companion, male or female and of the same race (to put it in some way it would be a Turkish van, according to his general temperament and physical characteristics)
    Thank you very much!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Nuria.
It has been very few days since you picked it up. My advice is to wait a few months, until it is finished adapting to its new home.
With patience and a lot of affection, you will be happy.
      A greeting.

As a child I remember having two cats, a male and affectionate Siamese (not much but he allowed himself to be touched and appreciated it, he did not look for you) and a Persian female who never allowed himself to be touched, he always growled at you just for passing by and did not related to other cats. The Siamese even sometimes came with other cats to eat from their bowl in the garden.

Once I became independent in a flat, I wanted to adopt a cat but when I went to look for it I saw a beautiful kitten, cornered in a corner watching how others were playing. I thought maybe that was not his place and I could provide one for him. I took a risk even thinking that she would be surly and not very cuddly, which is not what I was looking for.

He has turned out to be the most cuddly cat I have ever met, he always asks for and seeks pampering, he is nice to all the people he meets and he also pampers them, even if someone ignores him because he does not like cats, he does not bother him anymore . She has always eaten well, being in heat or when I have taken her to other houses. They get used to places quickly and they say that a cat is better not to move it from its own house. She is uncastrated and sometimes I take her to a house where there is an uncastrated male too (because I don't believe in doing something so unnatural to her and I am nobody to manipulate her life) and the first month he tried to mount her, but we said NO! every time she tried and little by little she stopped doing it and she began to defend herself. Today we can all be together and it is beautiful to see how they wash each other, sleep hugged and play together. No problems, no castrations, just educating them and patience.

The notorious differences between that cat and my cat (they are educated practically the same) that I have noticed are:
    - The cat, as the article says, likes to go some hours to some high place and stay there watching everything that happens in the room.
    - The cat also likes to stay from somewhere looking but as soon as you look at her, she comes running to pamper you.
    - He has ever pissed (3 in 1 year and a half) out of the sand, we imagine that to mark territory. She has never done it.
    - She purrs a lot and loud, he purred like a baby but stopped doing it.
    - She asks for a lot of pampering and he too but less frequently, both of them accept pampering calmly.

I have heard of people who despair over the meowing of the cat, it is true that they are uncomfortable and sometimes they are so loud that they can scare the neighbors but there I take her, I give her a massage, I pamper her or I let her sleep on top of me and calms down. You don't need anything else. By treating her calmly, she calms down.

They say that they are independent and that they believe they are our owners, and I also believed it ... but after educating two cats I have verified that no, that they prefer to be your companions and that with a lot of love they give you a lot of affection, they come running when you call them , they wait for you at the door when you arrive, they sleep with you ...

I hope I have helped those who have doubts about what to choose, even so, I believe that everything is the education that the owner provides and the character of the cat.

      Hello Edelweiss.
Thanks for comment. It sure does help someone to decide.
It is true that neutering a cat is not natural for them; since we are removing a part of his body. But you have to think that it is an animal that lives in the now, this present moment. If the cat is not zealous, she will not go for a partner; if he has children, he will take care of them, and if he does not have them he will not.
There are so many abandoned cats and kittens, and too few good people to them.
I am very glad that you are doing well this way, and I hope you do not take this the wrong way (it does not go with that intention 🙂).
      A greeting.

They deprived me of Los Gatos for 12 years, I had a beautiful Burmese cat, it was abandoned, it was a love of a cat, it grew up with a dog. Poodle raised her as if she were his daughter, the dog died and she of grief. It lasted a month I thought I didn't have any more animals but I went to see a kennel and I went out with a prey dog and later in the garbage I found a kitten and I have raised him and him. I have gotten along very well I saw the dog. They sleep together my Lion is very talkative he asks for everything he is very playful and meaty he does not like. That goes out to the street from the window maya me like
Scolding me, he's very clean, he has to drink water from a glass, he's very fine, he doesn't like it any more than his feed, I think he's already 2 years old.

The article is very interesting, I complement it with something very particular and that no one has given a logical explanation of why that happens, a few days ago four kittens gave birth to a cat, in an unfortunate event a car killed her and the kittens were left for four weeks, something An unusual thing happened because a male cat from a previous litter lies down with them, watches over them, plays with them, but the unusual thing was a few days ago that he arrived with a live mouse and, as if it were the cat, he called the kittens and put them on to play until they ate it, I thought it was an isolated case, but no, it continued to do so many more times, now that I gave away the cats it has returned to bring more animals it kills them and does not eat them.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Jairo Rodrigo.
Thank you for telling this story. It's amazing 🙂
Cats (male) can also have a very tender and maternal character (well, paternal in this case heh heh).

MY CATS ARE males, Phill and Paul. They live since the mother's womb in my company, since Gina (the mother) was a kitten used to the street and in the wild. She came to my house alone and settled in the yard without intentions to leave! His first litter died, one at birth and the other three from inexperience. Three were born from the next litter. Two males and one female. I had to put a collar and leash under a desk for him to look after them for up to a month and a half. After a month I started feeding them pills. He currently lives outside and on top of the house. The males live inside and without re quiet and companions. Gina (the sister) was adopted by a neighbor, but she's outside and on top of the roof like her mother. Cats understand NO perfectly and are very intelligent. I could assure you that they are capable of following orders with 90% accuracy. They are yellow
and orange with stripes and M between the eyebrows. The mother is gray black and orange ALL striped? and Gina, gray and striped.-Greetings.-
