Why is my cat always with me?

Cats can be very affectionate

Does your cat follow you around the house? Is he one of those who, if he could, would be with you 24 hours a day? Then surely you wonder why my cat is always with me, right? And it is clear, if for years you have read and heard that this animal is very independent, it may be very surprising that at least your feline seems to be just the opposite.

Although it is important to know why it acts like this, since some of those reasons may be caused by diseases. So that, let's find out if we have a very dependent cat ... or one that needs help.

Why is it always with me?

There are very sociable cats

He loves you and feels happy by your side

This is usually the most common reason. A cat that loves a person very much will want to be with them, especially when a very strong bond has been created between the two. It is easy that, as soon as you sit down, for example on the sofa, the furry one gets on your lap and remains calm and relaxed while purring and "kneading".

Ask for attention

If that person spends a lot of time away from home and / or if they don't pay proper attention to their cat, they will do whatever it takes to get it., starting with chasing him. If the situation continues then he will choose either to stalk and catch (the feet for example) or the toys, or to scratch the furniture or stay in a corner all day, bored. To avoid this, you have to dedicate 3-4 gaming sessions of about 10 minutes each a day.

Are sick or in pain

If he has had an accident or is suffering from a disease, the cat will usually be strong; I mean, he's going to pretend to be fine. But when your favorite human sees you, it is common for his attitude to change radically, to meow with a deep tone. In addition, you will not want to be alone, but will seek your company and your love to be able to relax.

In these cases, and whenever there is suspicion that the furry is not well, it must be taken to the vet as soon as possible.

Why is my cat following me?

One of the responses to "Why is my cat following me?" It is that a cat that follows you can be a learned behavior that comes from its kitten days. Despite the image of cats as highly independent creatures, young kittens learn about life by following their mothers. This is sometimes called the mother-kitten connection.

A kitten quickly learns that following its mother will provide it with food, play, security, and affection - almost all of the things a human ends up undertaking when adopting a cat. In addition, when a human strokes a cat and is next to it, a strong bond is forged between both species.

Some cats are quite curious and want to be aware of what their human is doing. They seem to enjoy hanging out with their humans and will follow them around different areas of the house. There may also be a dark side to this strong affiliation relationship in which cats suffer distress when separated from their humans. So next time you ask yourself, "Why is my cat following me?" The first response could be a case of learned behaviors.

Why is my cat following me? Is it a sign of affection?

Cats are very sociable

The second question after asking you: "Why is my cat following me?" It is asking if their habit of following you is a form of feline affection. It is a great compliment to be chosen as a favorite individual! It means that the cat chooses to be close to you and spend its time in your sphere of activity.

There may also be an element of your cat missing you, especially if you are out of the house all day for work commitments. This can take the form of your cat following you when you return and acting like she's trying to instigate a play or petting session.

How should you reciprocate your cat?

It's important to acknowledge and return the affection your cat shows when it follows you, but make sure you do it in a way that your cat appreciates. The best way to reciprocate depends on the individual preferences of the cat. Some cats may enjoy interactive playtime, while others don't really want interaction and just want to hang out near you.

When exchanging affection, it's smart to experiment to see where the cat likes to be stroked or brushed. Areas that most cats prefer include under the chin, cheeks, and the top of the head. Some cats really enjoy back strokes near the base of the tail, and there are even some cats who like belly strokes! Each cat has its own tastes and interests ... Discover your cat's personality!

Why is a stray cat following me?

We may have answered the question, "Why is my cat following me?" But what should you do if you notice that a stray cat appears to be following you? Well, first of all, if the feline shows signs of friendly behavior, "most likely," the cat is socialized with humans and not wild. In most cases, the cat is a friendly indoor-outdoor cat that takes advantage of its outdoor privileges.

Feel free to pet the cat if she seems receptive, even if you do so gently and without startling her. And make sure you introduce yourself correctly. (Also, wash and sanitize your hands later when you get home.) If a cat continues to follow you outdoors, perhaps it is an indoor cat that has gotten lost.

Check the cat for a collar or tags. Scan local listings or social media alerts to see if someone is looking for a cat with a similar description. If the cat does not seem friendly, it is advisable to observe the behavior of its body to try to judge if the cat is acting in a threatening or scared way.

This is generally not a very common problem because most feral cats leave humans alone. See if the cat's ear is marked as this is a universal sign that a feral cat has been spayed / neutered (you have more information here). Otherwise, Consider spaying / neutering the cat through a local animal association that funds these types of actions.

Why do you like to sleep with me?

Cats like to be with humans

Cats are very vulnerable when they sleep and they like to find a place or person they trust to sleep. When they sleep with their owner, they confirm that they trust you. While your cat trusts you, they also want to stay warm and they love the warmth of humans. They also love your comforter and blanket which provide extra warmth. Your cat loves that you are a human hot water bottle to him.

There is no doubt that your cat loves you and wants to spend time with you, but he also wants to tell you that he loves you by spending time with you. Cats do not like to be alone, despite what people think that cats are independent ...

Why does my cat like to sleep on my head?

Has an older relative ever told you to wear a hat to keep warm? Well, there is a reason for that! You lose a lot of heat through your head. So it makes sense that your cat wants to be where all the heat is..

It is also the safest place for a cat, since your head moves little at night. While your arms and legs tend to be the most active at night and possibly the most likely to bother them. A warm and safe place is a perfect place for your cat to feel relaxed and comfortable.

Should you sleep with your cat?

Cat with his human

It is a very personal choice if you want your cat to sleep in your bed. Some people hate the idea and others would not have it otherwise. You will have to know the personality of your cat and how it sleeps at night to know if it is a compatible sleep partner with you.

One of my cats is always next to me; He not only sleeps in my bed hugging my Dino who is by my side sharing all his moments. When he got home from work it is his happiest moment. I rescued him from a shelter where he had arrived in very bad condition and for 3 months I had to take care of him and medicate him every two hours. Somehow I think he thanks me with his unconditional love.

My Sapphire cat follows me everywhere.
It surprises me if he does not see me and cries.
He is six months old and very obedient, he does not tear the curtains, he does not scratch the furniture and he has his own toys.
It knows when it is No and identifies it.
    It's more than a cat I think.
He's super cuddly and they give me kisses when I fall asleep.

Hello, I have a Siamese cat, she was born in my house by chance, as I work at home, she has the habit of sleeping in my work area, be it my table or my printer, at night she sleeps in my bed, she wakes me up at night or early morning to eat. She loves to be caressed to sleep, but I have a question, have it ever been that animals give signals to humans that something is wrong with their (human) health, how can one account for that?

      Hello Rdorestes.

Well, that with time is noticing. Once you know your cat well, and he knows you, it is sometimes possible to intuit or suspect that something is not right. For example, if throughout his life he sleeps next to you and one day he begins to sleep on your lap or on top of you, it could be because something happens to you.

But this in the end is still assumptions. If you suspect that you are sick, it is best to see a doctor, regardless of the behavior of the cat.

      Regards!
