La bobtail breed dates back to a short-tailed kitten that was on an Indian reservation and was adopted by an Iowa family in the 60s. His genetic background is still unclear: however, he could have genes of the manx and Japanese bobtail, since in this breed there are cats without a tail, with a short tail and a normal tail.
The American bobtail was accepted for registration with the CFA in 2000, but only those that truly can be exhibited they have a short tail (bobtail). That is, to a point just above the hocks, not lower.
Appearance
It is a medium to large cat, its head is a wide modified wedge, with a characteristic forehead over the large, almost almond-shaped eyes. The ears are medium, with a slightly rounded tip. The body is moderately long and the legs are provided to him. The claws with large and round.
Manto
It is strong and waterproof. The covering hair is hard, and the undercoat is soft and insulates the cat from extreme temperatures. The care is minimal, since it needs little or no brushing.
Characteristics and temperament
The American bobtail is a very skilled hunter, and satisfies this instinct at home by hunting insects on the fly. Also they like to stalk their toys and put them in their mouths. Many of you can open doors by putting your hands on and turning the knob with them. They bond well with their family and get along with almost all dogs. In fact, they are famous for their love of dogs and their devotion to their owners. They make excellent companions for children as they are, within reason, relatively tolerant of rough treatment. The American bobtail behaves almost like a dog. They are loyal and fun pets.
