How are domestic and wild cats alike?

Domestic cat

We have a member of the feline family (or several) at home. We don't usually think about it much, because the truth is that sometimes they behave in a very strange, even funny way; Besides, nobody imagines a tiger playing with water, right? Well, maybe yes. And is that they look much more alike than we think.

Let's see How are domestic and wild cats alike?.

Throughout evolution, each species has adapted to its habitat. Therefore, there are species that are larger than others, but the truth is that all of them are very similar.

  • They are hunters: Nature wanted them to be predatory animals, so it endowed them with a specific bone structure for it.
  • They are carnivores: It is true that our cat will not need to hunt, but its diet, like that of other cats, is carnivorous.
  • They have retractable nails: this means that they can hide them and take them out whenever they need to. The only one that cannot do this is the cheetah.
  • They are territorial: not a lot, a lot. It can be very difficult for them to accept another, but domestic cats, with a little help from the human, you can get to get it.
  • They are genetically very similar: to the point that the tiger shares 95.6% of its DNA with the furry one we have at home. Incredible true?
  • Camouflage: the cat has a great variety of colors: black, brown, tabby ... These colors serve as camouflage, just like the rest of the felines.
  • Waking up at dawn and sleeping the rest of the day: this is what all felines do. Why? To answer this question we have to go to the habitats of wild cats. There, they are more likely to hunt early in the morning and at night, and not so much during the day.

So we have a little tiger cat at home. Interesting, isn't it? 🙂
