Why does my cat roll when he sees me

Siamese cat, a very affectionate breed of cat

Why does my cat roll when it sees me? That is a question that many of us who live with a magnificent cat ask ourselves. And of course, it would be normal for them to greet us with a meow, or even rub their legs, but not lie on their backs, right?

The truth is that… it depends. Each furry is a world, and each of them has their own personality. So if you want to know the answer to that question, then I will try to solve it for you 🙂.

My cat falls to the ground when he sees me, why?

Lying cat

The cat is an animal that uses its body language for communicating. Although it is true that from time to time he meows, it is with his body that he makes his intentions, his feelings or even his fears known. Humans, on the other hand, use oral language for the same purpose, but we do it so much that we are forgetting that with gestures, or with the body position we adopt, we can transmit more than with words. Why am I saying this?

Well, because felines in that sense can help us a lot to remember the importance of body language for all animals, including us. Considering what I just said, Why does my cat wallow when he sees me? What are you trying to tell me?

Nothing bad, I already tell you; in fact, cats that lie on their backs and roll around on the floor are animals that feel very happy and relaxed at that moment. You have to think that, since they are lying down and also on their backs, if there is another furry that wants to attack them, it would take longer to counterattack, and that time could be crucial to save their life. For this reason, if our dear friend rolls on the floor as soon as he sees us, I recommend doing one thing, well, two: smile and kiss him (or cuddle him).

He will thank you... and you will make your relationship stronger, because if he already trusted you, if you get used to giving him affection when he rolls on the ground, he will trust even more. 😉

There are several reasons why the cat rolls on the ground:

  • Mark territory: if it feels threatened by the presence of another animal, it will roll on the ground to spread its scent. With this, he intends to make that other animal see that this is his territory.
  • It's hot: the floor is always cooler than any piece of furniture. Therefore, during the summer he will lie on it.
  • During the rutting period: if it is a cat, it will roll around on the floor to spread its body odor, hoping that they will be perceived by another cat; but if it is a male cat, it will also do it to mark territory.
  • Want to play: How many times have you seen your beloved cat roll around on the floor, have you gone to caress it and it has given you a little bite? Well, you already know: if he does what we affectionately call the croquette, offer him a toy and have a great time together 🙂.
  • Needs attention: cats that spend a lot of time doing nothing get bored. One way to get our attention is to roll on the ground, in our vision perimeter.
Avoid boredom by playing with him every day, he will appreciate it.
  • It may be itchy: If you scratch a lot against the ground, making movements that many of us can only dream of, it is likely that you need to scratch in an area where it cannot reach, such as your back for example.

Why does my cat meow when it sees me?

The cat meows when it wants

These animals are adept at using their bodies to communicate. It is something that comes naturally to them, the result of an evolution that has lasted for more than ten thousand years. But he also uses the meow from time to time. Although it is true that there are cats that do not meow, or that barely emit a slight sound, the vast majority of them, as long as they live with humans who love them and take care of them correctly, it is likely that they will meow more than once.

Since it is impossible to know in which situations all cats meow, I am going to tell you in which situations the ones I know, and those who live with me, meow the most:

  • As greeting: either because you enter the house, or because he is the one who enters.
This is a short meow, something like "meow" in a normal tone of voice.
  • Asking you to give him something: If you start giving it a can of wet food every day, more or less at the same time, the cat will meow as soon as it sees you asking for it, just at that time you give it to it.
This meow is longer than the previous one, and somewhat more acute. It is usually accompanied by rubbing against the legs.
  • Looking for pampering: for example, a shy cat but that enjoys being petted and little by little trusting you, meows while looking at you with narrowed eyes.
These meows are short and high pitched.

What happens if it doesn't meow?

Cats don't meow sometimes

If it is a healthy cat, nothing happens. These cats only meow anyway if they have a good reason to; and those that don't, may be very shy or simply born that way, without the ability to meow. There are others who have a very low tone of voice, so low that they are barely heard.

Another completely different issue would be that he has stopped meowing. In that case, it would be highly recommended to take him to the vet as he could have a disease.

Hello, in September 2018 approximately, a cat came to my house at that time would be about 7-8 months old, it is like this, she is super affectionate, even though she does not like that I bathed her, she does not scratch (nor because of the evils that my little son does) he is very docile, every time he wants to do the bathroom he tells us, it has never been done inside the house, so as not to do the long things my husband and I would like him to get on the bed so that we can caress him but He does not want to, we raise it and it runs down the same thing happens if we load it, he does not like it, do you know of some methods so that he wants to be up in bed?

      Hi Fanny.
You can try to encourage her to go up by offering her cat treats. Yes, I know that eating in bed is not very hygienic 🙂, but you can put a napkin or that. However, I don't think it will take long for me to want to be in bed using this method.
      Greetings.
