History of the Khao Manee

Adult cat of the Khao Manee breed

Our hairy protagonist has its origin in Thailand, where the old king Rama V dedicated himself to raising them. It is an animal that attracts a lot of attention, so it quickly became the most popular breed during his reign (1868-1910). Back then, he was called Khao Plort, which means "totally white." And white is precisely one of the most beautiful colors that an animal can have. So much so that in their place of origin it is believed that these furry ones attract good luck and happiness.

However, this breed did not leave Thailand until 1999, when the American Colleen Freymouth adopted the first and brought it to the United States. It is, therefore, very little known and difficult to find for sale, and when it is obtained the price is high as we will see later.

Physical characteristics

The Khao Manee is an albino Siamese cat weighing between 3 and 6kg, whose muscular body is protected by a coat of short pure white hair.. The eyes, the part that stands out the most in him, are of different colors: one will be blue and the other amber or yellow. These are oval in shape. Its legs are wide and robust, and the tail is wide at the base and long.

For genetic reasons, these felines usually born deaf or partially deaf. But it must be said that deafness in recent specimens is decreasing.

Behavior and personality

This little furry is a lovely animal. Enjoy being with the family, receiving pampering from them, and why not? Kisses. He really likes to be with others, and he gets along well with everyone: children and adults. He has an outgoing and lively character, which makes him an excellent friend.

The Khao Manee it's very homey, which means that it does not have that compelling need to go outside as a Bengal cat may have. However, if taught to walk with a harness, sure you will have a great time.

How do you take care of yourself?

Food

For the sole purpose of maintaining good health, shiny hair and healthy teeth, it is advisable to give him a feed (dry or wet) that is free of cereals. Other alternatives are Yum or Barf diet, but the latter should be done under veterinary advice.

Hygiene

It is a cat that you have to brush daily, once or twice, with a card for example. Also, from time to time you can choose to put on a brush-glove, to take advantage and give it a massage while you remove all the hair that may be dead.

"Salud"

In general, it is a very healthy cat, but taking into account that it is a breed that can be born deaf it is important that you take him to the vet for tests and tell you how to act if it is.

How to train a Khao Manee cat?

Khao Manee's Young Kitten

The Khao Manee is a calm cat, with a balanced character, therefore, it will not be difficult for you to educate him. For that, you must be patient, and above all never lose respect for him. During his youth, he can be a bit unruly, so you will have to repeat things several times.

For example, to teach him not to bite, a simple but effective trick (although it takes time for him to learn) is the following:

  1. If you see that he is going to bite you, immediately show him a rope, a stuffed animal, anything he can bite.
  2. And play with it for a while.

If they have already bitten you, keep your hand or foot still. So he will release it. Then, get him off the couch and ignore him until he calms down.

He will soon associate biting with 'doing nothing', something that will displease him and he will try to avoid it precisely by not hurting you.

Yes, It is very important that when interacting with him you do not make sudden movements. Be subtle. Do not force him to do anything he does not want because otherwise he will not be a happy cat, but quite the opposite.

Price

The Khao Manee is an expensive breed, one of the most. Therefore, it should not surprise you that a professional kennel asks you for some $6000 for a puppy.

very well highlighted but it seems to me that some Khao Manee cats have a slightly more greenish eye color, but otherwise very well.
I thought her care was very well indicated and also the photos were very good by the way
but I want to know how to know if it is very pure, in other words that it is of a true pedigree, I also thought it necessary to put some recommendations to be able to buy the cats.
