Parasites such as fleas and ticks are never and will be welcome in the home. They multiply very quickly, and they can also spread diseases, such as Lyme, putting the life of our beloved cat at risk, as well as our own health. Therefore, especially during the warmer months of the year we have to take a series of measures to prevent them from proliferating in the house or flat. Only in this way can we prevent them from becoming a plague.
So let's know how to remove fleas and ticks from home so they don't reappear.
Put an antiparasitic on your cat
It is the first thing we have to do, especially if you have permission to go abroad. In pet stores, as well as in veterinary clinics, we find three types of antiparasitics:
- Pipettes: they are like very small plastic bottles inside which are antiparasitic liquid. They are opened, and the liquid is applied to the back of the neck, in the part that joins the head with the back of the animal. They are highly recommended since you only have to put it on once a month.
- Necklaces: they are placed around the neck of the cat. They are effective for one, three or six months, depending on the brand. Very useful if you never leave the house, or you only go to the balcony.
- Sprays: can be used whenever necessary, avoiding contact with eyes, mouth and nose.
Wash the house with hot water
When you have a plague of parasites like fleas and ticks, everything must be cleaned with hot water: clothes, floors, furniture covers, cat beds,… everything, once a day. Before you think about using chemicals, which are toxic to humans and furry alike, you should make this effort and keep the house clean.
Vacuum
Once all the clothes are in the washing machine, you have to vacuum. It's very important reach all the nooks and crannies of the house, since there could be larvae anywhere. Afterwards, we will dispose of the bags immediately.
Treat the exteriors of your home with insecticide
To prevent the problem from worsening, it is necessary to treat the entrance to the home with insecticide, as well as the surroundings, with insecticides such as Chlorpyrifos or Permethrin. Of course, before using it, we have to keep the cat indoors, and put on rubber gloves and a mask.
With these tips, fleas and ticks will have their days numbered 😉.
