How to make my baby cat stop crying

Baby kitten

In the middle of the breeding season, mother cats protect their babies, giving them warmth, milk and a lot of affection ... until it is time to wean as soon as the kittens are two months old. However, sometimes something unexpected happens, and the offspring end up orphaned on the street. If luck smiles on you, they will find someone that will take care of them.

If that someone is you and you are wondering how to make my baby cat stop crying, take note of these tips to regain peace of mind.

The needs of baby cats

Kittens have to protect themselves from the sun

Kittens are born around 68 days after being conceived. They come into the world with their eyes and ears closed, which will gradually open up over the next few days. However, they are already born with a highly developed sense of smell and touch, thanks to this they can recognize the smell of their mother and their siblings, as well as touch them, something that makes them feel safe.

The problem is that they are born very small and unable to regulate their body temperature, so especially the first month of life and up to two-three months they are very dependent on their mother. She provides them heat, food (breast milk at first, and somewhat solid food later), and she is also the one in charge of teaching them to hunt.

But… when she is absent, or when they separate from her too soon, it is common that they either do not move forward, or that they grow up being unbalanced cats. And it is that as much as we try, humans are not cats, we are not even felines. We can teach them to hunt a toy, but we could never get them to learn to fend for themselves in the hypothetical case that they could be outside.

Even so, we can be of great help to them if we find them (or give them to us) orphans.

How to care for a newborn kitten without a mother?

The kitten must drink milk

Food

You have to give them replacement milk (on sale here) in a bottle every 3-4 hours, warm.

Another option is to mix:

  • 250ml of lactose-free milk
  • 120ml heavy cream
  • 1 egg yolk without any white
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Do not forget to wash the bottle after each feeding, with hot water and a specific brush for bottles (on sale here).

Urinate and defecate

After each feed, at 15 minutes or soYou must take a gauze, dip it in warm water and pass it over the genital area. Use clean gauze pads for urine, and clean pads for stool.

What color and texture should a baby kitten's stool be?

As they feed on milk at least up to two months, the color must be yellowish and have a pasty texture. If it is of any other color, you have to go to the vet urgently.

Heat

Baby kittens they must be well protected from the cold, with blankets, thermal bottles, towels, ... whatever while the comfort and safety of the animals is ensured. If you are using plastic bottles, cover them with a thin cloth or towel to prevent burning.

During the summer or if you live in a warm area, keep an eye on them anyway, and keep a blanket close by.

My baby cat meows a lot, why?

Kittens meow when they want something

Baby cats, like human babies, can cry for a number of reasons. So that I stop doing it, you have to know what bothers you to the animal. Thus, you may feel bad for several reasons:

  • Hunger: is the most frequent. An orphan kitten needs to eat every 3h, either special milk for kittens with a syringe or bottle or wet feed if its teeth are already beginning to grow (from the month onwards).
  • ColdBaby kittens, during their first two weeks of age, cannot maintain their body temperature on their own. In fact, until they are six months old they will have problems regulating their body heat well. So it will be necessary to be very aware of the animal, so that it does not get cold. During the months when the temperature drops below 20º we have to cover it with blankets.
  • Disease: hairy so young can be victims of some diseases, such as distemper. If he does not want to eat / drink, if he has diarrhea and / or vomiting, he must be taken urgently to the vet.

What to do to make them stop crying

To stop crying, in addition to what we have mentioned, we have to have patience. The animal is in an unfamiliar place, with strange people, and to some extent it is normal for it to feel like crying. Every day you have to cover his basic needs, and above all give him a lot of love.

You will see how in a matter of days you will notice him happy.

How to stop my cat from meowing at night?

First of all, it is important to be clear that a cat is not a toy that can be turned off so that it stops making noise; if he meows it's for something. It may be an uncastrated cat and have the zeal, or that it is an animal that feels lonely and that feeling of discomfort is accentuated at night when the family sleeps, or that it is sick, or anxiety: Stress, or like one of mine, find a toy and call you to play.

There are many possible reasons, so the best thing to do in these cases is to discard one by one, and if there is suspicion that it is wrong, take it to the vet. In the event that you were completely healthy, I recommend you read this article:

I have a baby kitten that I found in the kalle but he cries a lot I hug him but one still crying I give him his milk every two hours his special milk that I bought him but he is still crying I don't know what I can do

  2.   Monica sanchez said

    Hi Katherine.
If he is very baby, he is likely to miss his mother and siblings. You can put a watch wrapped in a cloth next to him, and this way he will think that he has his mother next to him. This may calm you down.

It is important that you eat, otherwise your life could be in danger. As you eat, you will gradually grow as you feel better.

Hello yesterday I found a kitten in the street of 2 months or a little less ... The thing that I was passing and meowing almost screaming hidden in a silver with thorns .. I tried to take it but his fear was extreme and he tried to moderate me .. Finally after after several attempts I was able to catch him and take him with a towel .. Today he is in the house of a neighbor who is very stressed because the kitten has not stopped screaming! I think he's still terrified and doesn't let anyone do anything to him! HELP!!!! 🙁

  4.   Monica sanchez said

    Hi Javiera.
It is normal for him to cry and scream. To calm him down, you have to give him a lot of love and put a watch wrapped in a towel near him. If it's cold, put a heating blanket for him to snuggle into. Give him kitten food and in a few days he will get better.

It also doesn't hurt to take him to the vet to see if something happens to him. Prevention is the best cure.

    Cheer up!

Hello, I have a 1-month-old kitten and I am worried that he hardly eats and I am afraid that something might happen to him, he cries when he is sleepy and sleeps a lot

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello German.
You can try giving kitten cans. They smell much more than normal feed, and that would have to make your appetite whet and want to eat.
If he still does not eat, then it is important that you take him to the vet. Normally at this age he is likely to have intestinal parasites, so he will give him a pill and he will surely recover 🙂.
      Cheer up.

Hello I have a cat that is three months old and eats and everything but does not stop crying all day, what can I do?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Andres.
You likely miss your mother or siblings and don't want to be alone. You can leave him a scarf or a jacket of yours so that he is a little more calm when he has to spend some time alone, and when not, pick him up and hold him close to your heart. It seems silly, but it works.
Give him a lot of love and be very patient, with time it will pass 🙂.

Hello, happy day, I tell you, almost two weeks ago I got myself a kitten that was hours old and still with its umbilical cord, I grabbed it and bought it its special milk, I did not have heat but it was worth water and I put it in a pot with a cloth wrapped plus some hats to keep warm. He is growing a lot and everything is going well, the only thing is that sometimes he cries a lot when I go to bed, after he eats, I make him urinate or defecate, when I go to bed he cries a lot, I can't get close because he hardly feels my smell, it starts with a few screams very strong, he asks me: "Can he feel gas and is that why he will cry?" And my other question is on 3-02-16 he is 10 days old and he still does not open his eyes, is it normal?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Mariamny.
It is normal for him to cry, it is likely that he misses his mother and siblings. However, keep taking care of it as before and you will see how it will go away 🙂. Protect it from the cold and drafts, and feed it and it will grow healthy. If he cries when you get close, get close anyway. Take him in your arms wrapped with a blanket or something so that he does not get cold, and caress him. Little by little he will understand that you are not going to hurt him, but quite the opposite.
By the way, cats normally open their eyes at the first week of age, but some may take longer than others. In any case, if it is 14 days old and you have not opened them yet, it will be better to have it examined by the specialist.
      A greeting.

Hello, I have a kitten, on February 9 she was 2 months old, it catches my attention that when I pick her up, she cries and does not want to be to upa, I had another cat a little while ago that died of cardiac arrest when she was 2 years and 10 months old. It also catches my attention and I will always be left with the doubt and the pain of what happened, I do not know if it is common or not, I would like if it could be that you give me your point of view regarding the 2 things What I comment, regarding the first is because it frustrates me not being able to pick her up and pamper her as I want, is it because she is still a baby? I mentioned it to the vet and she told me that it is not that she cries, that she does it because she is like that ... that is, she did not give me any concrete answer. Thank you.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello marthika.
Your two-month-old kitten may just not be very fond of being held. There are cats that don't really like being on top of us 🙂. Still, you can try encouraging him to get on if you hold food that he likes a lot on your lap, or with a string or other furry toy.

As for the cardiac arrest your cat suffered. It could be that it was a case of sudden death. It also occurs in humans. Anyway, my advice is that you stick with the good times you spent together.

      Much encouragement.

  9.   marthika said

Hello, thank you very much for the answer, and if I stay with those beautiful moments that I spend with her, now this beauty came to calm the pain a bit, but it is totally different and it is true they are like human beings, different, I will be in contact with you Either by this means or by another because I really like what you say, and so I am learning too.
    Greetings.

Hello, I have a two-and-a-half-month-old cat, she has been at home for almost three days, she cries a lot, meows all the time, but when I leave her to sleep or have to go out, her meow turns up and it looks like a cry, we leave it at the loggia and today we gave the confidence to be at home without restrictions but she still cries if she loses sight of me she cries a lot so much that the neighbors complained about her meowing we lived in an apartment on the 5th floor. I don't know what to do because I don't want to get rid of her but it's much meowing and problems with neighbors. How long will this last, how can I make him not cry?

    1.    Susana said

I add that it has toys and a scratcher with toys too

      1.    Monica sanchez said

        Hi Susan.
It is very likely that he misses his mother and siblings, so I recommend you spray with feliway the areas that most frequently, and with orange essential oil wherever he sleeps. This will make you feel calmer, and you will most likely not cry so much.
With respect to the neighbors. Well, you can always explain the situation to him. It is temporary, do not worry 😉. Normally in 15-20 days they no longer feel so 'weird' in their new home.
        A greeting.

Hello I found 5 kittens lying next to a tree and I picked them up and put them in a box and at that moment I went to a vet to see what I could feed them, he told me to give them ordinary milk with a syringe but after the In the first week that I have been with them, I have noticed that they are very weak and their crying is less strong. The kittens I don't know how much they have, they are just opening their eyes. I don't know what to do, I don't want them to die, they'll need a vaccine

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Daniel.
Feed them every 3-4 hours, and if you find that they are still struggling to relieve themselves, stimulate the anal area with a gauze moistened with warm water. It is also important that they do not get cold, as they could catch a cold.
It is likely that they have parasites, so the vet should examine them and, if they do, simply with the right dose of medication, it is a problem that is solved soon.
      A greeting.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Belen.
Unfortunately there is no home remedy for distemper. The only thing you can try is to dilute 10 drops of horsetail extract and another 10 drops of echinacea in your drinker. Thus your immune system could be strengthened. You will find both products for sale in herbalists.
      Greetings, and encouragement.

I have a 2-week-old kitten and she doesn't want to eat, I feel like she's going to give her distemper like her siblings who have already passed away. He cries a lot, I have put on a heater and cotton covers, I cover him well and I am a little afraid that he begins to breathe through his mouth, what do you recommend?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Kelly.
At 2 weeks it is still very fragile. I recommend that you take her to the vet, especially considering that her siblings have passed away.
The animal, in addition, must drink abundant water, and feed itself. If you don't want to eat, that's a very bad sign. You can try giving him chicken broth, or cans for kittens with a little milk -for cats- to see if he cheers up.
      Cheer up.

Hello. My cat was a mother two weeks ago to 4 kittens. The problem is that despite being in good health, warm and with their mother they cry several times a day, constantly and very, very hard. Also one of the babies screams, does not cry (I don't know what to do anymore). I live in an apartment and I haven't slept for a week because they don't stop crying, the cat feeds them all the time and they look healthy. I don't know what's wrong with them and I'm very tired and frustrated.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Giselle.
To some extent it is normal for them to cry or scream. It does not always happen, but it is not something that we should be concerned about in principle. If the kittens are in good health, eating and growing well, you just have to make sure that they are really warm and well fed. Now, perhaps it is time to start having contact with them, to give them affection.
Use a feliway spray (or diffuser) or similar to keep them calm.
Anyway, I would also recommend taking them to the vet, as excessive crying may be due to a health problem.
      Greetings and much encouragement.

Well I found three kittens about a week old or if not less and I took them home and since they were hungry it occurred to me to give them lactose-free milk and they did the bathroom well and everything but now they do not stop crying rather one and the another wants to and keeps quiet and the third does not cry
Help please I don't know how to shut them up

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Jesus.
It is recommended that you give them special milk for kittens, which you will find for sale in veterinary clinics. In any case, for them to calm down, it is important that they are warm. If you have one, wrap a clock (the kind that used to be used as an alarm clock, which made the characteristic "ticking" sound), and hold it close to the animals. In this way, they will think that their mother is with them, so they will calm down.
You can also buy Feliway, which is a product that mimics feline pheromones that helps cats cope with stressful and / or new situations. Spray the room the kittens are in.
      Greetings and much encouragement.

      Hi Edgar.
During the first days it is normal for him to cry. Wrap it up well with a blanket or similar to keep it from getting cold, and wrap a watch in a cloth so that it can hear the »tick-tock». In this way it will be thought that it is the heart of its mother, and it will calm down.
You can also spray the room with products like feliway, which are made with calming pheromones that will help you be calmer.

Very good day. On Friday I found a kitten, he still has the umbilical cord and he has not opened his eyes. He is well wrapped up. I encourage him to chichi, but he doesn't poop, and he sleeps a lot. Is it bad that I sleep so much? I give him 5ml of milk every time he wakes up or every 3 hours. What else should I do or give him?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Tatiana.
Little kittens sleep a lot, so don't worry 🙂.
On the other hand, if he eats only milk, it is normal for him to have very liquid stools. In any case, if you have doubts, consult a veterinarian.
Greetings, and congratulations on the furry one.

Hello, how about exactly two weeks ago I found a kitten whose umbilical cord must have already been 1 or 2 days old, the baby eats urinates, makes normal pop, sleeps and has big eyes because he already opened them, but I'm worried because he cries A lot when I feel my smell, I do not stop giving him affection but sometimes I put him on a blanket so that he can walk since his third week begins, then I would like to know what I can do so that he does not cry so much, in his box at each change I put A bottle with hot water wrapped and he is always made over there because it is warm next to his stuffed animals so that he does not feel alone, but I would like to know why he meows so much, and he takes practically 10ml in every 4 or 5 hour shot because he sleeps a lot. . it will be OK? … And well, how is it going for its third week? .. Thank you very much for your answer, thank you very much !!!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello ellide.
The third week is when the kittens can begin to see their world. You can give him already if you want wet food for kittens bathed in milk so that he likes it more.
For the rest, it seems that he has no health problems, although it could only be confirmed by a veterinarian.
If he cries when he smells you, he probably misses his mother's scent, even if he hasn't been with her much. It only remains to be patient, and continue taking care of it as before.
Greetings, and by the way, congratulations!

I have a kitten that is almost 2 months old, I just brought him home but when he doesn't see me or my wife he cries a lot, at night I take him out of the room and he spends the whole night meowing loudly and he just wants to be near us and on top of the bed. What I can do?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi carlos.
It seems that the kitten is getting used to being with you in bed 🙂. If you are not going to let him get on when he grows up, I recommend that you give him a piece of clothing that bears your smell or that of your wife - a scarf for example that you have worn that day. That way you won't feel so bad when you're alone and you will cry less and less.
Also keep in mind that you may miss your mother, so for a few days you will have to be patient. You can try spraying the room where you sleep with Feliway or similar products. Being made with feline pheromones, it can help you to be calmer.
      A greeting.

Hello, they told me a very cute kitten is 1 month old, I took her to the vet and she told me that she is doing very well, I am feeding her and she is already bathing in the sandbox, but there is a problem, she cries a lot when we are not charging, all the time she wants me to charge it and she keeps following us all to charge her, I have tried to play with her with various things (balls, ribbon, etc.) and she really doesn't care, she just wants me to screw her up to sleep, I don't know what to do, I would like her to be playful and not cry 🙁
I hope you help me, thank you.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Berenice.
At that age it is normal for him to cry. You have to think that until recently he was with his mother and brothers, and he misses them.
It must also be said that they can be very "rebellious" and use their crying to get something from you: your attention. Obviously, you can't watch her 24 hours a day, so I recommend that you put a jumper or used clothing on her as a blanket on top of her bed. If you can, try to get a product called Feliway, and spray some corners of the room where he sleeps. This will help you feel calmer as you will smell other feline pheromones (the product).
      A greeting.

It is better that you give warm water, neither cold nor hot.
As for your question, she is still very young and she sure misses her mother. Since she doesn't have it, she looks for you, because with you she feels safe.
If it is cold, wrap it with a blanket since at this age they are very weak.
      Much encouragement.

Hi! I have a kitten for a week and a half that is no more than 4 months old. Yesterday I finished giving him an internal deworming but what I see is that the kitten almost does not eat the balanced food, if he eats whiskeys, he does not drink any water and I feel the body temperature a little warm. In addition, he sleeps all day and if he is awake he cries, he does not want to play, he is not very active nor does he walk around the house. In the week they will give the first vaccine. This days it is very cold around 1 -4 ° is it possible that the cold is due to the cold? Or the kitten will have something. He pees poo on the stones as normal. I'm a little worried about his inactivity being so young. Thanks!!

Hello, I found 4 little babies, about 1 week, they cry a lot, I give them milk, I hug them and I try to keep them warm, but they still cry a lot. And they hardly let sleep in the nights that I can do

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Ana.
Baby kittens until they are one month old should be fed kitten milk (sold in pet stores or veterinary clinics) every 2 to 3 hours. The milk has to be warm, at about 37ºC, and you can give it to them with a new syringe or with a bottle. The amount will depend on the brand of milk in question, but it is usually about 5ml each time during the first two weeks, and about 10-15ml each time in the third and fourth week.
After each intake you have to massage their tummy, clockwise, reaching their legs. This will help them relieve themselves. 15 minutes after (or during) eating, they should have urinated, and ideally they should also have a bowel movement. Wipe them well with a baby wipe, using a clean one to remove urine and another to remove stool.
In the event that more than 4 days pass without having defecated, and / or if they do not urinate, you have to urgently take them to the vet as it could be fatal.
Keep them warm with a thermal bottle of those to which you have to pour hot water and with blankets.

Everything else is patience. Caring for baby kittens is a tough job, but it's worth it.

      Good luck, and good cheer.

Hello, three days ago I found three newborn kittens (no more than two days old) were in the back of my house. Unfortunately one passed away, so I have his two brothers left. The problem is: I give them their milk every two-three hours as they have explained, I encourage them to relieve themselves, I give them heat etc ... But they keep crying and I am worried that they may have colic or some kind of pain. What can I do? ?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Giselle.
If they still cry, they may miss the mother, in which case it would be advisable to put a watch wrapped in a cloth so they can hear the sound of the ticking (which will remind them of the sound of the mother's heartbeat). mother), or her health may be poor.
As they are so small, everything has to be done urgently, so I recommend that you take them to the vet to find out if they have colic or not, and if they do, treat them so that they can continue to grow.

Hello, about two weeks ago I found an abandoned kitten and decided to adopt it, it is in very good health and already has teeth, it does not cry at night and it eats well, the problem is that when I leave it alone in the kennel every time it hears a noise He starts crying and doesn't stop until I give him milk. Is this normal? He already wants to eat every hour and does not drink more than one ounce, so he fills up and does not want to drink more but at the time he starts crying again and does not calm down until we give him the bottle, what should I do?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Vanessa.
At this age it is very important to be protected from the cold, and from sounds, since their sense of hearing is very sensitive.
On the other hand, it may be that the milk is no longer feeding you enough. Since it already has teeth, you can start giving it wet kitten food, cut very very thin.
At first, put a very, very small piece in his mouth for him to taste. Later if he is hungry, he will most likely eat.
      A greeting.

Hello yesterday I found a kitten with days of birth, it still had the umbilical cord…. Could you tell me what the care of this one is and what milk it can drink 🙂

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Ariana.
Yes in this article we tell you everything. By the way, if you have the umbilical cord, it must be no more than 3 days old 🙂. It will fall off by itself.

Hello, two days ago I met a kitten more or less than a month ago and he already walks and eats and does his needs and is fine, the only thing he does not let is meow, what is wrong with him?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Luisa.
Most likely, he misses his mother and siblings. My advice is the following, although surely you already do 🙂: give him a lot of love. We must have patience. If you see that the furry is fine and leads a normal life, at first I would not worry. Now, if you see that he begins to have diarrhea, vomits or does not want to eat, take him to the vet to examine him.
Greetings, and congratulations on the new member of the family.

Hello, very good weekend, I tell you, since I found a kitten on the street and it cries too often, that's when I go to sleep and I put it in a box with shredded paper, food, cow's milk (I know it's not the best but It is what I have most on hand and I do not know if where I live I could get it) and a blanket. He already has teeth and so that he can eat better I soak his food a little, I don't know if it's out of fear since he hasn't been home for a week, and I also have a cat who, although it doesn't hurt him, is very curious, I also have a dog and four very playful puppies I don't know if it would be okay for him to interact with them. Another question not if it is okay for the baby to go out to the patio of the house, thank you very much for your time.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Lucia.
It may be that he cries for doing little that he is with you. Give it time. It is likely that he will miss his mother and brothers, but with cuddles and care it will pass in a few days 🙂.
If she already has teeth, she can easily eat kitten food. It is better to get used to the water as cow's milk can make you sick. To do this, you can soak the food with water.
As for him going out to the patio, I personally do not recommend it at least until he is five or six months old. You could get hot or cold very quickly, and you could get sick.
You can be with the animals as long as you are supervised.
      Greetings, and thanks to you.

Hello I just adopted a kitten but he cries too much if I'm not with him especially at night, I have let him sleep with me but even so he cries I prepare his bed and he does not stop doing it he eats well he is very happy but he does not want to separate me and Well, you can not always be with him, I would appreciate some advice in advance.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Hidhem.
First of all, congratulations on the new member of the family 🙂
Regarding your doubts, it is normal for him to cry since he misses his mother and brothers. But it will pass soon.
The ideal thing to be calm is to wrap a watch in a cloth and bring it to him, or give him a stuffed animal.
If it doesn't work, you can use Feliway in diffuser. It will relax you.
And if he still cries, take him to the vet to see if he has any problems.
      Cheer up.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Angela.
Is his mother with him? If not, you will most likely miss her. You can put a comfortable bed for him, and give him a lot of love.
It is also important to take him to the vet, as he may have intestinal parasites and being so small it can be a very serious problem.

    Hello, excuse me
My cat is barely a week old when my mother picked him up, she still had the cord on her belly ...
Mm and since that time she took care of him
I investigated on the Internet what I should do, however, the point of stimulating him to defecate was complicated since he only made me pee, it worried me but then I started thinking and argued with my mother. We came to the conclusion that it is because of the cow's milk diet (lactose-free) I could not get the one that is for cats because I was exhausted in the places I went ...
And well I left it like that I was peeing more and more color but when the week came the cat opened its eyes but I stopped peeing
I can't take him to the vet because they won't let me ...
    And I'm scared
I don't want him to die?
    HELP!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Cynthia.
After each feeding, you can massage her belly in circles with a little pressure - very little - so that the food is digested and the remains go towards the anus. After about 25-30 minutes of having eaten, try moistening a gauze with vinegar, and wipe it over your ano-genital area. This is how he should defecate.

      Good luck.

Hi! I took care of 4 kittens that my mother found in a box, I have them 10 days ago and I calculate that they must be arriving a month. I worry that after giving them milk and cleaning their tails so they sleep, they won't stop crying. Sometimes I leave them alone and they calm down. It's fine? If they feel the slightest noise they wake up and cry again.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Anii.
If they are going to be one month old, they are most likely hungry 🙂. With my kitten Sasha happened to me, who gave her a bottle, I worked it in seconds and after a few minutes of eating and relieving herself she would come out of the box as if looking for more food.
Try feeding them wet kitten food, well chopped.
If their tummy is swollen and soft, they probably have intestinal parasites. Your vet may recommend an antiparasitic medication.
      A greeting.

Hello, how are you? I have a concern I have my kittens of 2 weeks approx. But 1 of them cries a lot, does not want to be with the other babies or if it makes them upset it makes him cry more, his mother today took him up on the roof of the house and left him there, I put him down at the moment and gave him a tit after that but keep crying and I don't know what to do,
What I can do?? She rejects it ?? Or is it sick? ...

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Milagros.
Most likely, he is ill. In nature, mothers reject sick animals because they know there is nothing they can do for them.
Being so small, it is urgent to take him to the vet to see what happens to him.
If the mother continues to reject him, in this article explains how to take care of an orphan kitten.

Hello, I am in charge of a kitten that is barely 2 weeks old. This morning at about 3 o'clock he began to meow suddenly and constantly. I've been with him for almost a week so it seems weird that he misses his mother now. We have tried to give him the bottle but he did not want the milk. Please if you can give me an advice as soon as possible I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you very much.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Ana.
Being so small he can meow from several things: cold, abdominal pain (or cramps), from being hungry or, also, from wanting to relieve himself.
If he is warmly dressed and well fed, a vet should see if he is in pain. Colic in such young kittens is very worrisome.
In the event that it has not calmed down, I recommend that you take it to take a look.
      A greeting.

Hello, I have a 1 month and a half kitten, he has been with me for three days and he hardly drinks liquids, he does not poop either, he has been very crying but when I play with him it passes and he gets restless and he also bites and scratches He has been sleeping a lot but I am worried that he does not go to the bathroom, is that why he cries? It should also be noted that yesterday morning he vomited and then fell asleep.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Marivi.
If you don't have a bowel movement, your belly must hurt a lot. I recommend moistening a swab from the ears (the part that has cotton wool) with vinegar and passing it through the anus. You can also add a drop of vinegar to his food to relieve himself.
If he can't do it, you should take him to the vet as soon as possible.

Good night Monica, after searching through many pages for an answer to my question, I found this magnificent page, I always tell you since I moved there was a cat that walked on my roof and I left food for it but it ran, it only ate when no one passed time and more than a year I have done this but from time to time, until a month ago it began to arrive more often and meows a lot as if demanding food from me, I went out to see him and I realized that she was a cat and was pregnant, automatically I started to feed her every day and every time I saw her empty plate with kitten food, she never came near me but I knew I could find fresh food and water on my roof, about two weeks ago out of nowhere she started to approach me and I was very happy that she took that step, after three days after that approach she started to follow me around the house and I left her for a few minutes because I went to change to take her to the vet and let them see if her pregnancy was going well. in, she left and gave birth on the neighbor's roof inside some plastic, I increased her feeding but two days later she came to my roof reluctant, weird and left, I was worried and I did not sleep at all because her kittens They began to cry and as soon as it was 6 am I went to my neighbor and went up to your roof to take them out, I was surprised that he had already returned but I still took them to my roof where I prepared a warm place with a bag to heat And all of her while she was present pretended to be normal I went to lunch and she had taken them back to my neighbor's roof but to another place, I decided to leave her, I continue to feed her so that she has milk for her babies and does not waste time looking for food because she I was a street person, I decided to take care of her, Lia, as I have named her, does not worry me because she knows how to take care of herself, the kittens scare me that they will freeze to death, here in Chiclayo peru the temperature is 19 degrees with a humidity of 80 % I know that Lia is taking care of the good p But I am afraid that something will happen to them, She comes to my room and has already started to knead me, she purrs at me, meows slowly, sleeps on my legs and gets on my bed. Well, I want her to have the confidence to bring them, but is that possible? I know that I have sent myself with a great text but it is the first time that I have a cat and on top of that, thank you in advance

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Xiomara.
In principle you don't have to worry. The mother knows how to take good care of them, instinctively.
Anyway, if you are concerned (something normal, I would too) you can always put a blanket to protect them.
Greetings, and thank you for your comment 🙂

    Hi good day
8 days ago I found a kitten on a platform, the kitten did not have his eyes wide open and he did not walk, he only crawled, today he already has his eyes wide open and he is already staggering and he still has no teeth, I am giving him milk-free milk with white egg, I try to give it every two or three hours as I have read in some articles I encourage it to relieve itself after each meal and I have it in a box with good blankets, the climate is quite warm so I imagine it does not suffer very cold. I would like to know why he cries so much, he stops crying while I leave him in his bed alone, while I am around and try to caress him or feed him, he cries a lot and moves a lot. I would like to know what happens to him and what I can do, I would like to be able to caress him without crying and moving a lot since it is very difficult to do so.
I will be attentive to any comments

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Lorena.
Even if you live in an area with a warm climate, kittens that are so young cannot regulate their body temperature and are often cold. One of my cats was bottle-fed last summer, with maximum temperatures of 38ºC, and we could not remove the thermal bottle until she had her good two-something months (early autumn).

Another reason they cry is because of intestinal parasites. Coming from the street, you most likely have worms, which should be treated with a drug recommended by the veterinarian.

      A greeting.

Hello, I have adopted a 1-month-old kitten in a veterinary clinic near my house yesterday afternoon, I bought him everything (toys, a bed, a transporter, feeders and a water trough, the cakaleku to make them and each in his sand ) then the vet has given me a special food for him and a damp can .. .. ok he is at home from yesterday afternoon and since he is at home until today in the morning he does not stop meowing, if for the same for half an hour and on… .. I have fed him twice of his feed and he has eaten but not everything, he drinks very little water, then he has played with me several times with a toy that I bought him, he has pooped and peed but the poop is like very soft as if it were diarrhea .. and well he doesn't stop screaming I have barely slept because all the time I have got up or to offer him food or to play with him or to try to make him sleep in my arms he slept like 5 minutes but nothing more and I always add something else I'm going to catch him he growls at me and runs away but when I catch him he doesn't attack or bite ... I can do ?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi, Pablo.
It is normal for you to feel a little strange and even sad for the first few days.
To calm him down, you can wrap a watch in a cloth and put it close to him. The sound of the »tick-tock» can help you relax.
Your stool will not become more solid until you eat dry feed. By the way, how often do you feed it?
At that age he should eat well minced damp cans every 4-5 hours.

Until he gains confidence, he can feel very insecure every time you go to take him. But this with time and a lot of pampering will pass 🙂.
If you have not dewormed, I recommend that you do it since kittens that have been in the street usually have intestinal parasites.

      A greeting.

    Hello,
Two days ago I was given a two-month-old kitten. When he arrived, my mother looked for a box for him to sleep, however the kitten was very scared and did not move. At night, he started meowing a bit, so I stayed with him; if I left. his meow increased. Today he has not let us sleep because of his loud meow, but he has allowed himself to be touched. I carry it and stroke it and it seems to like it. But every time I leave him to explore the house, he starts looking up. looking to climb or jump on furniture. I have not seen him eat much and that worries me. My mother cooked him some chicken and no, we also gave him cat croquettes and cow's milk. I haven't seen him drink much water either. It makes me sad, because I don't know what to do. Will it adapt to the new home?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Rafaela.
With patience and love, anything is possible 🙂.
It is very likely that you are simply researching your new home. It is very normal for cats to want to get on high surfaces (they do not like being on the ground too much, unless it is summer and the ground is cool 🙂).
Give him time and play with him, let him see that he can trust you. Don't try to catch him if he doesn't want to (one of my kittens is two months old and, although he is affectionate, at the moment he does not like being held much. He prefers to run).
Little by little you will feel more secure.
      Greetings, and encouragement.

Receive a cordial greeting, adopt an orphan kitten, I have it for 8 days and it is already opening its eyes, it is fed, it is insensitive to defecate, it has its box with good blankets but ultimately it cries a lot, but what if it is when I catch it, I caress it, it starts to lick my hand even when it is full and it stays still, it sleeps calmly but it doesn't last sleeping and today in its defecation it comes out a little liquid, I would like you to give me indications I do not know anything about raising an orphan cat.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello paola.
Baby kittens have to be fed every 3-4 hours with a kitten milk. You cannot give them cow's milk as it contains lactose, which is the sugar in milk that can cause allergies.
After 10 minutes or so you have to stimulate him to relieve himself, both urine and feces (which when drinking only milk will be very soft).
It must be kept in a comfortable, quiet and warm place, since it cannot regulate body temperature by itself.
If it still doesn't improve, my advice is to take him to the vet to have a look at him.
      Have more information here.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Fany.
I recommend offering him cans for kittens. It is a soft and smelly food that cats like a lot, and it will surely not take long to get closer. It is also important that you invite him to play, for example with a rope.

The first few times do not hold or caress it, but from the third or fourth day you can start caressing it a little.
As time goes by, he will gain more confidence, and the time will come when he will let you pick him up.

      Hello camilo.
Cow's milk is not usually good for cats. It is best to give them cat milk (such as Royal Canin or Whiskas).
In order for them to do their business, you have to pass a cotton ball moistened with warm water over their anus-genital area 10 minutes after having eaten. Use one for urine and one for stool.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello isbael.
After feeding them, do you stimulate the ano-genital area to relieve themselves? At this age he does not know how to defecate alone, and you have to help him by stimulating the area with cotton soaked in warm water 10 minutes after eating.
You can also help him by giving him a very little vinegar, or giving him a circular massage (clockwise) on his abdomen.

And if he still doesn't, you should take him to the vet for an examination.

      A greeting.

      Hi miguel.
Most likely, it has internal parasites (worms or worms), which are eliminated with a syrup that your veterinarian recommends.
Another option is that he misses his mother, but this with time and a lot of pampering will pass 🙂. Keep it protected from the cold, and spend as much time as you can with it, and little by little you will see it more cheerful.

      Hi Matias.
First of all, congratulations for saving the kitten's life 🙂
So that he can sleep peacefully, I recommend you put on his bed some piece of clothing that your girlfriend or you have brought. For example, a scarf or an old T-shirt. By having your scent close, he will be calmer.
It can also help a lot Feliway, in diffuser. You will find it for sale in animal supply stores.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Uriel.
I recommend you take her to the vet, since being the daughter of a cat that has been living on the street, she probably has intestinal parasites (worms) that are causing her discomfort.
For him to eat, give him wet kitten food. Take a little - very, very little - with one finger and carefully put it in your mouth. By instinct he should swallow it.

Hi, I'm Matias again, I have problems with my kitten, the one we saved.
Has seizures similar to combulsions, 2 episodes. When I let go, he runs, but has no balance and falls. He leans against the wall and calms down. Then it sits still and stabilizes. In the episode. He drools and his eyes widen exaggeratedly. Now he does not cry directly. He walks and looks for any corner and stays there. We are totally sad we don't know what to do, and our vet doesn't, he tells us nothing!
    What can be?
When I found it, the situation was this: I saw that a lady had thrown it with a shovel towards her sidewalk as if it were something. I went to my house to look for some things so I helped him. When he came back he was not there. I saw him on the street walking around. And so I saw it. And we attended it with my girlfriend. After edo everything seemed fine. And last night this happens to us.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Matias Gabriel.
You probably have an internal injury. It is not normal for you to have seizures.
But I'm not a vet, sorry. I encourage you to ask for a second specialist opinion. You can do it at barkibu.com

    Hi how are things!!
I have a kitten that I picked up from the street but it won't stop crying until my neighbors complained, the truth is I don't want to give it because I still want to see if I can do something, it has its bed, its sand, food, water, but it still doesn't stop crying, it's about 3 months old. What should I do to stop crying?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Hugo.
I recommend you take him to the vet to see if he has any problems. If you picked it up from the street, it is very possible that it has intestinal parasites, which are eliminated by giving it a medicine prescribed by the specialist.
It is also important to know if the food is bad for you. If you have cereals, this ingredient sometimes causes a lot of problems for cats.

On the other hand, it is essential to spend as much time as possible with him. Play, give a lot of love. So little by little you will feel better.

      A greeting.

Hello, I'm lida, my cat died two days after she gave birth and left the kitten, she is now 3 weeks old, and I have given her breast milk from animals but I don't know why her poop is green or I don't know if she should change it for Another thing since in my town they do not get many things for orphaned cats that I should do I do not know if he is dehydrated

      Hi Lyda.
      The stool should be yellowish.
It might have worms. I recommend you take him to the vet to give you a syrup with which you can deworm him.
By the way, at that age you can already give him wet food for kittens, well chopped.
      A greeting.

      Hello Saori.
You may be cold or worse, worms.
Another possibility is that the milk does not suit you.
To know more, I recommend you read this article.
      A greeting.

Hi! How are you? I need help I got a kitten alone on the street with only one month old, I have been giving him prepared milk (the one with egg yolk and others) and I clean his genitals every so often so that he defecates but the problem is that he cries a lot and I do not know what to do

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Alice.

At that age he can already eat wet food for baby kittens. Ultimately, it may be that you cry from hunger.
In any case, it is advisable to take him to the vet because it is also possible that he has intestinal parasites (they are very common in cats born on the street). If you have them, surely give him a syrup to take in a few days and that's it.

Courage and congratulations on the newcomer to your life 🙂

Hi Monica, I wanted to know why it is that my kitten does not stop crying, I found him a few hours ago and he has been born a week or a little more or less but the problem is that he does not stop crying, he eats well and as long as he I get caught with a soft little blanket, she cries even more as if she misses her mother and maybe that's it, but I don't know what to do, could you help me? :3
        I'm worried

          Hello Ramses.

It may be that he misses his mother; he is still very young. If it is winter in your area, have it protected in a crib or box-type bed and a blanket.

After eating, stimulate her genital area to relieve herself with sterile gauze.

          Regards!

My cat is 1 month and a half, and he drinks a lot of lactose-free milk. I give him water and solid food and he starts to cry and does not eat, he only drinks milk to calm himself down. What do I do to make it come off the milk?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Stefany.

It is too early for me to quit milk altogether Up to 2 I would even tell you 3 months is good to take.

But yes, you should start eating solid food, but soft. That is, wet food for kittens (cans) would be ideal, or else I think for kittens soaked with milk.

Try putting a little bit (like a grain of rice or a little more) in the mouth, gently. My cat Sasha started eating like this, because there was no way to start weaning her either. Let's see if you are lucky.

If you see time go by, and you still only drink milk, go to the vet.

      Greetings.

Sometimes kittens cry because in the place where they are kept they are not comfortable because of the very smell of their excrement. Remember that cats are very clean animals, so if you have them in a box with clothes or blankets to make them more comfortable, it is important to change them, because otherwise there will come a time when they do not feel comfortable and meow. Kittens should eat regularly and keep them warm, and have them do their bowel movements, but remember this point: if there is no cleaning, the cat will tend to want to run away from where it is.

      Really true.

The stool and urine should be removed daily, and the trays cleaned regularly (depending on the type of sand, once a week or a month).

Hello, my cat had her second litter of cats, the kittens are already 15 days old but there is a kitten that has not stopped crying all day, the mother feeds them and they are in a warm place, but the kitten only comes out from his house and he cries desperately, I bring him closer to his mother and he doesn't stop crying, I don't know what he might have. There are times when the cat stops crying while the cat is with them but suddenly she cries again very hard.

      Hello Rocio.

Maybe something hurts or you are sick. It would be nice if a vet saw it.

      Greetings.

Hello, I have a cat that gave birth to 4 kittens 4 days ago, and since they were born they cry a lot all day, but on the third and 4th day they cried almost all night and I noticed that the light turned on to check them and they stayed quiet and calm, and choose to leave the television on for the rest of the night and end the problem, no more crying.
Was it the light they lacked?
