When we live with a furry one, we want it to be an animal that leads a good life and, above all, is happy. However, sometimes we can forget that feline blood runs through its veins, that is, that although it can adapt to living in a flat or an apartment, it does not stop being a predator.
It has claws with which it can pierce the skin, teeth strong enough to break the bones of its victims (rodents and small birds), a sense of hearing that allows it to hear the sound of a mouse from seven meters away, and vision powerful thanks to which you can see at night. If we want to know how to make life easier for a cat, we have to take all this into account, since it will be the only way that we can really make him happy.
We have to respect the cat as a species (felis catus) and as an individual (Blacky, Sasha, or whatever we have called it), since both (species and individual) are part of our dear friend. Knowing this, it is necessary that Before we even take it home, let's get what you need: scraper (or several) that you will use to sharpen your nails and climb, a high quality food (without cereals) that allows you to grow strong and healthy, toys suitable for cats (ropes, small balls with or without sound, interactive toys for cats, ... ) that we will use every day to entertain you, and patience.
It's true. Patience is not a material thing and therefore cannot be bought, but if we are not patient people we will have to calm down if we want to live with a cat. Why? Because he's going to want to get on the furniture and he might scratch them, and while he's young, he's going to be a whirlwind 😉.
Of course, you have to spend time with him and teach him that there are things he cannot doas the scratch us o bite us, but for that you have to be very constant. The cat is not going to learn it in two days, or in three or four. It will take a lot longer. Anyway, you have to know that with love and patience everything is possible. Yelling and mistreatment will not achieve anything, just be afraid of you.
Lastly, As long as you live in a quiet area (countryside, small town or sparsely populated) I highly recommend that you let it go outside. Outside there are many more stimuli than inside the house, so that you can live the life of a cat and, when you return, you will feel much more relaxed. Of course, to avoid losing it you have to put a necklace with an identification plate or, even better, a necklace with GPS. Likewise, it will be necessary, in addition to vaccinating, to take it to be neutered before it has the first heat (a neutered cat does not wander as far as a "whole" one: while the neutered male leaves a maximum of three blocks and the neutered female one , the entire male moves 4-5 blocks away and the female 2-3).
With these tips, you can ensure that your furry is going to be very, very happy. 🙂
