The cat is a wonderful animal that allows you not only to know him, but also to know yourself. Thanks to their company, their purrs, even thanks to their antics that make us laugh most of the time, we can enjoy a pure and true friendship with a feline that has been with us for about 9500 years.
However, we have not always had a very good relationship with them. In Medieval Europe they were burned at the stake because it was believed that they were carriers of the plague, and despite the time that has passed, even today there are people who prefer to stay away from this precious animal, or who may not know how to love a cat. For them, and also for you if you already live with a furry one, this article goes.
First of all, say that I am by no means an expert on cats. I am not a veterinarian, an ethologist or a trainer, but I have been living with cats since I was 10 years old (I was born in 1988). Many cats have passed through my life, and surely many more will pass because I love taking care of them and learning from them.
That said, now let's get down to business.
How to show your cat how much you love him?
So that all the needs of your feline are covered, you must take into account that it is:
- Animal: feline, that is, it is a very close relative of lions, tigers, pumas, etc., and therefore has a similar behavior. This means that it is a predator that spends a lot of time resting in order to be successful in its hunt.
- Individual: by »individual» I mean your cat in particular, that is, Tom, Mishi, Luna,… or whatever his name is 🙂. Each cat is unique and unrepeatable, so it may need more affection than others, or it likes to spend more time alone than others.
So once we know this, we can know how to love the cat.
What needs do you have?
It is often thought that a cat is much easier to care for than a dog, because it does not need to go for a walk and because it is more independent. The truth is that this depends a lot. It is true that you can leave him alone at home for 3 days with water and food, but if he is very dependent, that is, if he likes to be in the company of a human a lot, he will most likely have a bad time. Then, How to take care of it?
1.- Cover your basic needs
- Meals: being a carnivorous animal, it should be fed, if possible, natural food, or failing that, with feed that does not contain cereals or by-products, since it can cause allergies by not being able to digest them well.
- Water: every animal must have fresh and clean water every day in order to quench its thirst.
- Home: or have a roof where you can protect yourself from the cold and heat.
- Scraper- In nature, you would sharpen your nails on logs and branches, but at home you can do it on furniture. To avoid this, we have to provide you with one or more scrapers.
- Veterinary care: from time to time it will be necessary to take him to the vet to examine him and check his health.
2.- Cover your emotional needs
- Company: you have to spend as much time as possible with him, playing with him, and making him feel that he is really part of the family.
- Trust and respect: is one of the most basic things. The furry must know that he can trust you, and that you are not going to mistreat him. Respect is essential so that coexistence is pleasant for everyone, so you should take time to understand their body language so you know what he's trying to tell you at all times.
- Affected: needs to be loved. Although it is thought that it is a solitary animal, the truth is that once you have earned the trust of the other, it is easy for it to look for you to caress it.
Enjoy his company ... and let him enjoy yours 🙂.
