Look for his mother

I'm not going to fool you: when you see a kitten alone on the street, the mother is most likely not around. But sometimes you can get a surprise. Thus, the first thing you have to do is try to look for her around, especially if the little one sees that he is very baby and that he can hardly walk well.

Leave her kitten food in the corner and wait a while (half an hour, or an hour) hiding to see if an adult cat appears that is affectionate with the little one. If not, or if you suspect that the kitten may be sick, proceed to do the following; But if you are lucky and the mother appears, I recommend you leave food for them every day.

»Catch» the kitten

I put it in quotes for a simple reason: the stray kitten is not only hungry and afraid, but also in need of affection. Picking it up is as simple as offering it a kitty tin, covering it with a towel or blanket and putting it in the carrier. Many times it is not even necessary to cover it with anything.

Once you have it with you, speak with a soft and calm tone of voice. Surely he does not understand you, but when listening to you speak he must feel calm, something that will come in handy for him.

Take him to the vet

It is one of the things that you must do out of obligation. You have to know if it has a microchip (again I tell you that it is very unlikely, but you never know), and also if you have any disease. If you have a family that is looking for you, thanks to the microchip you will be able to return home; and if it does not have a chip, it is advisable to wait at least ten days before deciding what to do with the little one, during which time you should put up »Kitten found» posters with his photo, as it could be that, equally, someone was worried about him try to find it.

On the other hand, if he is sick, being so small he is very fragile and vulnerable. The professional will examine you and give you the treatment you need to regain your health.

Decide what to do with it

After ten days, and if no one has asked about it, then you can ask yourself what you are going to do with the kitten: Do you keep him? Or are you going to find him a family? Of course, if you can afford it, the little one will surely want to be with you much more, because at the end of the day, it was you who saved his life; But if you can't, I recommend you ask for help from an animal shelter to find a good home, where they will love and care for them until the last of their days.
