How to feed a cat with malt

Cat licking itself

Cats are very clean animals; in fact, they are so bad that they seem obsessed with their personal hygiene. Although this has its why: they are predators, but they are also prey to other bigger and stronger animals, so going unnoticed is not that it is important, it is that it could save their lives.

When they live with us they do not have to worry about these types of dangers because there is none (or there should not be), but that need to be clean can bring them other benefits: those of malt. Do you want to know what it is and how to give malt to a cat? Keep reading 😉.

What is cat malt?

In this product of vegetable origin similar in color to honey, although with the densest texture composed of malt extract, fiber, dairy derivatives, vegetable oils and fats, and yeasts. It also usually contains colorants, vitamins, and preservatives.

We will find it for sale in the form of a tube with a lid, in any pet store and even in supermarkets.

What is?

Cats, during their daily grooming, ingest a large amount of dead hair that will be directed towards their digestive system. When that amount is excessive, hairballs or trichobezoars form. As well, animals may need extra help to expel these balls, and what better than to give them malt and avoid symptoms as annoying and unpleasant as vomiting, nausea or difficulty in defecation.

How do I give it to you?

To feed the cats malt you just have to put a little bit (like a ball the size of an almond) on their leg and leave them alone. By instinct they will lick each other. In general, they tend to like it, but if you notice that they like one brand more than another, it is normal 🙂. Each one has a somewhat different composition, but in the important thing, which is in containing malt extract, they all coincide.

Of course: give them twice a week, or four if they have long hair. During the shedding of hair, you can give them every day, once.
