Obligations of cat owners

From the first moment we have an animal at home we must take care of him. You have to think that he has not decided to be there, but that we have chosen to give him the opportunity to live in a good home, with what is now his family.

In the blog we very often give a lot of advice about how to take care of a cat in the best possible way, but what does the law say about it? What are the obligations of cat owners?

Although it is true that in matters of animal justice there is still a long way to go in Spain, the reality is that little by little we are taking steps forward, towards a future that promises to be much safer for our four-legged friends. For the moment, according to the law, our obligations as owners of pets and, especially cats are:

  • Keep it in good hygienic-sanitary conditions: This means that we have to make sure that you live in a clean place.
  • We are prohibited from abandoning, mutilating and mistreating them: It may seem obvious, but in this country, for example, 16 dogs and cats are abandoned every hour. If we cannot take care of them, why do we acquire them? Why do we let them breed?
  • Animals must have sufficient space if they are moved from one place to another. The means of transport will have to protect the animals from the elements and from the extreme climatic differences.: Travel is an experience that causes a lot of stress for animals and, in particular, cats. If they go in small carriers or in a means of transport that has not been conditioned so that the animal can go well, the most common is that problems arise.
  • Provide them with adequate nutrition for their development: It is essential to give them an appropriate food so that they can grow and stay healthy.
  • Take responsibility for the damages caused: in the case of those who take care of stray cats, we must try to leave the floor clean, without food remains.

Living with a cat can be a wonderful experience, but only if you really want to share life with it.

What happens when your neighbor's cat does his business in your yard and the owner ignores your complaints?

      Hello Jose Luis
In that case the ideal is to put cat repellants. There are several: pepper, citrus, ... Put them in different areas of your patio and it will stop going.
      A greeting.
