Swollen stomach in cats

Causes of inflammation of the abdomen in cats

Does your cat have the Stomach swollen? If there is something that can be seen immediately and we are very concerned almost instantly, it is having detected that our cat is more swollen than normal. When this happens, it is essential determine the causes as quickly as possible to carry out the most appropriate treatment as the case may be.

There are many possible causes and we will discuss all of them in this special. In addition, we will tell you what to do so that your friend recovers as soon as possible, because a swollen stomach in cats is a problem that, very often, must be treated by a veterinarian.

When should we worry

Poisoned cat in the garden

Often a cat with a bloated stomach is an animal that will feel listless, that will have lost its appetite. But we have to bear in mind that it is not always something serious. Furry that eat a lot and / or very fast have a good chance of ending up with an upset stomach. Thus, in these cases it is not usually necessary to request veterinary attention since they usually recover in a couple of days.

However, if our friend eats normally and one day we see him more bloated than normal, then we will have to worry, as it could be the first sign of a disease such as peritonitis, cancer, hepatitis o liver necrosis.

peritonitis

Peritonitis in cats

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) It is an infectious disease that occurs when the cat's body reacts in the wrong way to the feline coronavirus infection (FcoV). Although there are hairy ones that manage to eliminate the virus without problem, there are others that end up developing FIP.

FIP is an inflammation of the blood vessels that, if not treated in time, unfortunately can end the life of the animal. To make matters worse, it is a condition that is difficult to diagnose. Hopefully, it will be detected by a biopsy.

Cancer

Cat with a bloated stomach

Cancer is a well-known disease that also affects cats. In the case of felines, you have to know that Any change in your routine may be indicating that there is something that is not going as it should..

The most common symptoms of cancer in cats are diarrhea, loss of appetite and weight, vomiting, depression, isolation. As we can see, we could end up thinking that you really do not have a serious health problem; in fact, when cancer is found in cats, the tumor has usually spread. So, I insist, whenever you notice any change in your friend, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem, I recommend that you go to the vet.

Hepatitis

Hepatitis occurs when the liver becomes inflamed from being unable to eliminate toxins normally. It can be caused by diabetes, leukemia, infection, or poisoning. If your cat is a victim of this disease you will notice that he drinks a lot of water than is usual for him, he will also urinate more, his coat will lose shine and his abdomen will look swollen.

Treatment will depend on the cause, but if you are very sick you will spend a few days at the veterinary hospital where fluids will be administered by vein. Once at home, it will be highly advisable to start giving a I think low in sodium to prevent it from happening again.

Liver necrosis

Sick cat with a hard and bloated stomach

The word 'necrosis' in medicine means 'death', and 'hepatic' refers to the liver. Thus, liver necrosis means that some part -or all- of the aforementioned body undergoes changes that prevent it from fulfilling its functions. When necrosis appears only in one sector, it does not cause too many disorders, but otherwise it can lead to liver failure.

The liver is the organ that is responsible for detoxifying the body, so once you start having problems, it becomes increasingly difficult for you to function properly. Taking this into account, the most frequent symptoms that we will see in the cat are the vomiting, pérdida peso y high blood pressure.

To detect it, the vet will perform an ultrasound of the abdomen and a complete blood test to check its condition. Treatment, as in other conditions, will depend on the cause, which can range from hepatitis to a serious infection, so the professional will act as the case may be. Usually, he will give you a series of medications and will recommend rest for the furry. But if the situation is very serious, you will have to opt for the Liver transplant.

Other possible causes of a bloated stomach

Cat with a swollen gut

Although there are several diseases that can cause the stomach of our friend and partner to look bloated, there are other problems that we must pay attention to. They are:

Intestinal parasites

Especially the recently adopted kittens or recently taken from the street, they usually have internal parasites such as Toxoplasma gondii for example. Sometimes they do not have any symptoms, perhaps a little diarrhea, but still it is important to deworm the animal as soon as possible and vaccinate it as long as you are in good health and of the right age to do so.

Internal parasites are not normally passed from cats to people, as With basic hygiene rules such as putting on gloves to clean the litter box or washing hands before eating, the risk of infection is practically nil. But when the furry goes outside or when it has not been dewormed - which must be done every three months - the probabilities increase.

Indigestion

Cat with possible intestinal parasites that cause a bloated stomach

Also known as indigestion, it occurs when the cat eats more than it should. The stomach swells up and the animal starts to feel sick. Your tension as well as your body temperature are likely to rise (It is considered that you have a fever if it is above 39ºC).

In general, you should not worry because in a few hours you will feel better. But if we see that it is difficult for him to breathe, or in the event that he does not defecate or urinate, we will request veterinary attention.

Poisoning

Another probable cause for your stomach to swell is swallowed something he shouldn't: a plant that has been made chemical insecticide, a poisoned piece of food, medicine for humans, or a little liquid from a cleaning product.

If you suspect that your cat has been poisoned you must take it as soon as possible to be examined, especially if you have breathing problems, ideally with a sample of the poison.

We hope this article has been helpful in determining the cause of your friend having a bloated stomach. Remember that an early diagnosis is the best guarantee for a full recovery… and early.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Juan Carlos.
When that happens, give him cat milk, or cans. You can even try giving it liver -cooked- or tuna. Take him to the vet to see if he has any problems that are affecting him 🙁.
I hope it gets better. Cheer up.

Hello Doctor, my cat has almost a month with a swollen belly…. He plays well, eats a lot, drinks a lot of milk but drinks little water. He does not feel sick, he is always full of energy, you think there is something about his pansita, it worries me a lot

      1.    Monica sanchez said

        Hello Bryan.
I am not a veterinarian. Still, you may have a bloated belly from drinking a lot of milk.
If he leads a normal life, I wouldn't worry, but if he starts to get worse, take him to the vet just in case.
        A greeting.

When a cat has not eaten for a week, it urgently needs to eat anything, even cat milk. All the best.

Hello, good night, I have a very big doubt about my friend's cat, I poisoned him and luckily he was able to save it, but after that the pussy's belly was already super swollen as deformed and on its back it appeared like a burn that was is peeling. The vet made him a plaque and said he had nothing but the truth is that it is very worrying like this. Thank you in advance.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Gabriela.
If it does not hurt, it is most likely that it will recover on its own, but I still recommend that you ask for a second veterinary opinion, just in case. In principle it does not have to be anything serious, but it does not hurt to make sure.
      Cheer up.

Hello Good look, my cat had a stomach with ascites. In my clinical practice of medicine, I performed a paracentesis, I drained 120 cc of ascites liquid, my cat has not lost his appetite, no fever, what can I do as a prophylaxis?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello paola.
Have you looked for a tumor, an inflamed liver, or an underlying disease? My advice is to take him to the vet for a urine and fluid analysis, as well as an abdominal ultrasound. Just in case.
As a treatment, the specialist will know how to advise you better, but at home you can start giving it a feed rich in proteins, as natural as possible.
      Cheer up.

  4.   Monica sanchez said

    Hello Maria Jose.
If you see that he is uncomfortable, it may hurt. Take him to the vet to examine him and give him the most appropriate treatment. It may not be anything serious, but it is better to be safe.
    Luck.

Hello, how are you, my kitten is a little less than 3 months old and has a belly. Very swollen, I took him to the vet, they told me that it could be gases but the truth is that I'm afraid that it's something wrong

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Cinthia.
If your kitten leads a normal life, that is, if he eats, drinks and relieves himself, in principle it is not worrying. In the event that he stops doing any of these 3 things, or if he starts to feel sad or depressed, then I would recommend asking for a second veterinary opinion.
One of my cats was very swollen once. I took her to the specialist, they did X-rays and tests… and she had nothing. In a few days he got better. The cause of your discomfort? Indigestion
So quiet, really. If it gets worse, take it again, but I doubt that will happen 🙂.
      Cheer up.

Hello, today I came to my house and I found that my cat was swollen, with pain in the abdominal area and with a little fever.
He is a cat that walks in the street since we let him out, but it is the first time we see him like this and he complains a lot.
The truth is, I don't know what you have, I would appreciate it if you can help me, thank you very much

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Alana.
You may have eaten something that made you feel bad. That 'something' can be anything from spoiled food to poison, so my advice is that if you don't see improvement today, go to the professional.
If you try to vomit, it is because you definitely have something you want to pass. To do this, you can help him by giving him two small tablespoons of salted water.
      Cheer up.

My cat was fighting and he urinated on himself after 2 days he hardly even ate and now he is swollen and tense .. His stomach is hard .. I made him affectionate and he massaged him and he purred me, what could it be? Please help = '/

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Gastom.
From what you reckon, it may be a urinary infection, such as cystitis. It is highly recommended that you see a veterinarian for the most appropriate treatment. Perhaps you just have to change his food, give him a specific one for problems of this type. But it may be something more serious, like stones.
      Cheer up.

Good evening, a consultation we have some kittens and one of them eats and plays much the same but is slower than the others. I touched him the bread sita and he remains calm. He doesn't play a lot and eats the same as everyone else.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Sara.
You may have intestinal parasites. At that age they are very common.
I recommend that you take him to the vet to see if that's why, or if he has something else. However, if you don't show any more symptoms, they are almost certainly parasites. And this has an easy solution 🙂.
      A greeting.

Should the test come out positive?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Shirley.
I'm very sorry for what is happening to your kitten 🙁
When a vet talks to me about euthanizing a cat ..., I prefer to ask for a second opinion, which is what I recommend. Is not more.

    Hello good afternoon!!!
I have a 12-year-old cat and well lately his hair is falling out too much, apart from the fact that his belly is swollen, I don't know if it will be because he eats too much or because of something else…
It worries me there !! He urinates and urinates as normal. I would like to know what I can do? 🙁

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Carla.
Have you had any moment of tension or problems in the family? This may be an indicator of stress, especially if you have recently started to eat a lot. See if he eats fast.
My advice is that you give him a feed that is chewy for him; that is, the kibble is large enough to force you to chew. And, above all, it is important that you have a large amount of protein. This way you will be satisfied sooner and, therefore, you will eat more than you need.
If you do not see improvement, then perhaps he has a more serious problem such as a viral disease and that would have to be seen by a vet.
      Greetings, and encouragement.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Karen.
It may just be indigestion, or it may be something more serious like kidney damage that needs veterinary attention. To know for sure, it is better that you take it to the specialist. In the meantime, you can give her chicken broth or offer her cans of wet cat food, to see if she will eat.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Claudia.
If the kitten is fine, that is, if it leads a completely normal life, it is most likely just gases. Still, if you see it getting worse, I recommend that you take it to have a look at it, just in case.

My cat was fine a while ago, my mother says she ate well all day, but at night she wanted to give her chicken that she loves, and she didn't want to eat. When he hits him in the stomach he screams a little, and we wanted to take him to another place to check if he had any injuries and he became aggressive and his eyes widened. Now he wants to drink a lot of water and he's in the bathtub and he doesn't want to go out.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello daliasued.
If you do not want to eat anything today, not cans for cats or chicken broth, you may have an upset stomach that should be checked by a professional. If he is aggressive, cover him with a towel or blanket. That way it won't be able to scratch you and you can examine it.
      A greeting.

    Hello good night.
I have a 1 month old kitten, she eats kitten nuggets and drinks normal water, she no longer drinks milk. This afternoon I gave him some chicken, however during the afternoon I noticed that his belly was swollen. I understand that they can be parasites however she is not of the age to deworm it. Since I noticed that she was swollen, she hasn't pooped, but I think it's normal because she only poops in the morning. He does not act strange, his acting is normal, as it always has been. Should I be worry? Should I take her to the vet? I appreciate your response.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Laura.
To prevent greater evils, yes, it is advisable to take her to the vet.
Meanwhile, you can mix dried thyme with its regular food, which will fight parasites.

Hi how are things? My cat has a hard abdomen and a little lower. Not bloated, just a little harder than usual. Other times I noticed that in her but now when reading about the pif I worry. She is fine. eat sleep play. But his hard abdomen I wonder what it will be. He is 10 years old.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Indiana.
Have you seen if he goes to his litter box to relieve himself? I ask you because it seems to me that what he has is constipation.
Try giving it a tablespoon of vinegar and, if it is still the same after two days, take it to the vet to see. But I already tell you that if he leads a normal life, surely it will not be anything serious.

      Hi Coral.
Have you checked if he has eaten too much? If your cat continues to lead a normal life, it is likely that she has simply had a glut.
Even so, if you see that she does not improve throughout this weekend, take her to the vet to examine her.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Yoha.
Sometimes it can take several days until you notice improvement, more if you have recently been on a new diet.
Anyway, I recommend giving chicken broth with a little rice from time to time to improve it.

Good night, Monica! Sorry for the time I write to you, but I wanted to ask you as a specialist -and in relation to the aforementioned post-: I have a 15-year-old cat. He has had diarrhea for two weeks. It started with softer stools than normal. My family vet medicated him with antidiarrheal + corticosteroid. He was good for two days, until the symptoms appeared again. An ultrasound was requested, which detailed a "fibrous" bowel with fluid. This itself could be the trigger for said symptoms. The treatment remained the same, adding a change of food (he prescribed hypoallergenic Royal Canin). To this we also add rice water. But to this day my cat has not improved. He continues with his loose stools, but now they are practically liquid. Eat well. drink liquid -lots-. And inside everything is animated -it is noticeable annoying-. I just noticed it with a swollen belly. What could all this be due to? Would it be advisable to go further with complementary studies? I am quite worried, more than anything the extension of days with diarrhea.
I would appreciate your answer! Sincerely

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Eliana.
I am not a veterinarian, but I can speak to you based on my experience. My recommendation is that you change the feed. Look for one that has a high percentage of meat (minimum 70%), and no cereals (no corn, no wheat, or derivatives). Cereals can cause infection problems for cats, as well as diarrhea, since they are foods that they cannot digest well.
The "least bad" cereal so to speak is rice, and in fact, it is recommended to give them chicken broth with a little rice to curb diarrhea.
Much encouragement, and a greeting 🙂.

Hello, I have a question, I have a Siamese sentry box and I gave her the drops to deworm her and since I take them, she farts very smelly, she walks the most well, she plays, everything runs normal, but those gases could something happen to her ???

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Diego.
Cat fumes smell pretty bad already 🙂.
But when they smell really bad is when we have to worry, since it may be that the cat is being fed with a feed with a high content of cereals, that it has been suddenly changed feed, that it eats a lot or very fast, or that it has a problem in the digestive tract, such as intestinal parasites.
If you lead a normal life, don't worry in principle. But if it gets complicated, don't hesitate to take her to the vet, just in case.
      A greeting.

      Hello Vero.
You may have had a reaction to the injection, or you may have eaten excessively.

There is a male street cat whose stomach is very large, he is skinny, but he eats well. I have tried to catch it with a trapper and I had no luck, there is a colony of cats, I have neutered 10 and 18 pups delivered. I'm bad because I couldn't catch him, I don't want him to die suffering.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Carolay.
If you can, try to get a cat cage-trap. Put a trough with wet food inside, and then you just have to wait.
If you cannot, you will have to try to attract it without a cage, putting on gloves to avoid scratching you. Try to corner him with the help of 2, 3, or whatever people are needed. Get closer to him little by little, and cover him with a towel. Then immediately put it in the carrier and cover it so that the cat cannot see anything and does not fret any more.
      Good luck.

Hello, I would like to ask, I have a 2-month-old kitten, I adopted her about a month and since that time her stomach crunches, she eats normal, she drinks enough water, plays and everything is normal, about 5 days ago I gave her droplets for parasites but I have not presented any change, But it worries me because his stomach sounds and when I touch his stomach I feel like his tummies. I don't really know what it will be, but it worries me, what could it be?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi okay.
It may be from drinking a lot of water. Cats should drink 100ml of water for each weight if they eat dry feed, that is, if they weigh 1kg, they should drink 100ml of water; if they eat wet feed, the amount of water will be 50ml / weight.
If he leads a normal life, that is, if he eats and does his business well, and taking into account that you have already dewormed him, in principle I would not worry. Sometimes sounds can be heard after they have eaten food, due to their digestion.
Anyway, if you have doubts, it is best to take her to the vet.
      A greeting.

Try giving it even tuna or chicken broth. And, if you can, really, ask for a second opinion.
      Much encouragement.

    Hello Monica

Well my cat has an inflated stomach, his stomach is ringing and he does not want to eat this has been going on for 3 days, I am afraid that it is pif since my cat had an accident we do not know the specific cause but the vet told us it could have been due to a fight, run over or fall, he cannot move his tail involuntarily defecates and urinates.

    Thank you.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Claudio.
It is difficult to determine the cause, so in my opinion what to do now is to put a treatment to alleviate the symptoms. Only the vet can tell you if it is PIF, doing the specific tests for it.
      Greetings and much encouragement.

    Good evening!!
It is to make a consultation I have a kitten of a month and a half and she was fine during the day until suddenly I change her mood and she only wants water and her belly is swollen and I drop a few drops of blood I do not know if anal or when I urinate but it worries me because I see her very badly she screams at me but she doesn't know what to do and her stomach makes a noise !!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Laura.
If your cat vomits blood, she may have an infection or gastrointestinal illness. In any case, it is very important to see a veterinarian so that it improves as soon as possible.
      Greetings and much encouragement.

My kitten is 2 months old. I am deworming him with droplets. Days ago I have noticed that he emits moans when he plays or when he washes. It is strange to hear him. He has good spirits. He plays well, he is happy.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Jessica.
If the kitten leads a normal life, in principle I would not worry. Sometimes being so young they make some strange sounds, but over time they stop doing it. In any case, if you see that he begins to feel bad or if you suspect that something may be happening to him, take him to the vet for a diagnosis. But boy, if you do not see him down or anything, it is likely that it will pass soon.
      A greeting.

Hello, about 3 days ago I adopted a kitten of about 2 months from the street, I have fed her with kitten food for up to 12 months, but since yesterday she has an inflamed stomach, she urinates normally and defecates equally normally, she also eats normal and plays, but sometimes I feel like he sleeps too much, but I don't know if it's normal because it's small or it's something else.
It disappears as soon as you adopt it with droplets.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Karina.
Could it be that you have eaten faster or faster than usual? Sometimes puppies eating too much or too fast can end up having a slightly swollen belly.
Another option is that your body is still getting used to your new diet. When you have had it for 3 days, I would recommend waiting 7-10 more days to see how it works. If she starts to have other symptoms, or if it starts to get worse, take her to the vet. But in principle it does not seem anything serious.
      A greeting.

Hello, I have a 3 or 4 month old kitten. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that he sat to lick my belly for a long time, practically until it was wet. It is normal? He does not present any symptoms of illness, he eats and plays normally. Thanks!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Acel.
Excessive licking is sometimes a sign of stress caused by boredom, but from what you count, I think what you have are parasites. I would recommend putting a pipette or an insecticide collar for kittens on it.
If she still does it, then she should see a vet, as she could have some discomfort in the stomach or in that area.
      A greeting.

    Good morning!!
A query, I have a kitten of approximately two and a half months and yesterday I noticed that he was looking for me and he got inside my coat when I touched him he had a fever and I touched his belly and he had swollen and I realize that he has not defecated! He is constipated because I saw him make an attempt to defecate but he couldn't and I told the vet and he told me to give him half a tablespoon of milk magnesia as this serves as a laxative. I got up early today to see him and he still hasn't done it and his belly is swollen and hot but he is not down in the mood but he is looking for me because he is cold that if I do not want to eat!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Massiel.
Try giving it a large tablespoon of vinegar. If it does not work, give it again at 8 am.
It is a natural laxative that should help you have a bowel movement.
In case he can't, you can give him malt. But if it worsens or if he does not relieve himself between today and tomorrow, I recommend you take him back because he could have hairballs.
      A greeting.

    Hello good day!!
A consultation, I have a kitten of a month and a half, he has always been skinny and I dewormed him and everything and yesterday the veterinarian came to put him on medication but at night when he was going to give him food I noticed that his front legs and his wrists were will bend down
This worries me ... he eats well and looks for me because he is very attached to me!
    A greeting!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello, Luz.
It is rare, but it may be that the medicine has caused this in his paws. This in any case would have to be confirmed (or denied) by a specialist. But I can tell you that these types of drugs sometimes cause an unexpected reaction in animals.
      A greeting.

Hello, four days ago they brought me a one or two month old kitten, she does not drink water, it is as if she did not know her and it scared her at first, but now she sniffs it and just does not take it, she asks for a lot of food, I give her I gave him a few portions of tuna and minced meat, I gave him the meat with olive oil, I also gave him warm milk with butter and milk with olive oil, the first or second time I fed him he was trembling. I notice that her stomach is hard and swollen, she does pee, but she does not defecate much in fact she has only done twice in all these four days that I have her with me, the first time I was not present, that was two days ago and The second was today, when she was doing it she cried and apparently it cost her to do it, the smell was very strong and it did not smell like cat poop usually smells, if you understand what I am saying, and the color was very dark and after that notice that her belly was less swollen. Hermaione is a very very active kitten, she runs and plays and is curious, she eats, pees, runs and plays then sleeps for a while and so the day passes, when they brought her to me they told me that she had just eaten meat Bitten and the poor thing, besides being super scared and nervous, she already came with a hard and swollen belly, she also seems to have a broken tail or at least hurt so that she would calm down a little and gain some confidence I gave her warm milk but a little because also neither I take it all I don't know if I should stop giving him milk or if I should continue giving him milk and stop with the tuna and meat, I don't know how to make him drink water

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi, Leticia.
To get her to drink water, I recommend giving her chicken broth, or cans for cats. You can also "force" him to drink some water with a syringe (without a needle), or with a bottle; so little by little he will get used to it.
To make him defecate, give him a tablespoon of vinegar. The vinegar will act as a laxative.
And if it still doesn't improve, or if it worsens, take her to the vet for an examination.
      A greeting.

Hello. We are very worried . Duke 4 and a half months is a Persian Tabby who was doing very well until a week ago we realized that he had a very swollen belly. It gives the sensation when we touch the belly that is like a balloon full of water. In the X-ray you cannot see anything, it is all a white spot, you cannot see the organs, due to the amount of fluid it has. This has coincided with the change of feed, it is from the same brand but adapted to its age. The blood analysis also shows uncontrolled parameters. He has not lost his appetite, he is now on a soft diet, but he defecates with diarrhea. What could this amount of liquid be due to?
Although he eats, he is not playful at all.
    Thanks in advance and greetings

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Yolanda.
I'm sorry about what happens to Duque 🙁
The diagnosis can only be made by a veterinarian. In my opinion, it could be the cause of an infection. But I already tell you, it is best to have it checked by a vet.

Hi! I don't know much about cats. A week ago I picked up a gambling den from the street, he has had diarrhea since I have him, he eats too much, drinks a lot of water, he complains and has rash on his hair, the first day I took him to the vet, they dewormed him, they gave vitamins, etc. But he still has diarrhea, I took him again and he is on antibiotics, I think it may be due to parasites and my son worries that he may acquire some since the kitten stains everything with his paws, is that it? And how serious can it be?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Yasna.
Coming from the street, it is very likely that you have internal parasites. Did they give you something to remove them, like a pill?
It is serious, because by having diarrhea you are losing fluid and minerals. The good thing is that he eats and drinks. Anyway, I recommend that you take him back to the vet with a stool sample to be examined under the microscope. It is the fastest way to know whether or not you have internal parasites.
There are diseases that cats can transmit to us through parasites, so it is very important to prevent them from climbing on tables, chairs and beds, and you also have to wash your hands well after touching them.
      Greetings and much encouragement.

Good Morning…. About two months ago I adopted a kitten that is 5 months old today ... they gave him to me with a vaccine and dewormed, but his tummy swells, last night a fang fell out and I just realized that his cuddles are opening at the tips ... I'm very worried

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Alexandra.
In principle, the fang that may have fallen out is a milk tooth, since some cats take a little longer to replace the child's teeth with the adult ones; But it could also be a sign of something more serious, like a weak immune system.
The nail could be caused by fungus, but to know for sure, I advise you to take it to see a professional.

WHAT I DO? now I have no money to take her to the vet, please help me !!!! I have to worry if she is already voting for her dead and she is already deflating little by little. THANK YOU

      Hello Daniela.
If you are vomiting it is a good sign. Give him water and chicken broth -with a delicate stomach, it is better to follow a soft diet-, and when he no longer vomits, then you can give him his feed again.

He removes gases from the bathroom, what can I do to remove the swollen thing? I do not know if he only has a lot of air, the vet told me to give him a little salty grapes in water to cut the gases, I already did it but I think it has not worked because it is still the same but he tells me that It cannot deworm it because it is very small, I can do

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Fernanda.
I would recommend giving him water with a small tablespoon (for dessert) with apple cider vinegar, as this can help clean his stomach. But it is better that you consult your veterinarian before, because you should not self-medicate or give any remedy if we do not know if it could make you feel bad or not.

Hello, I am a kitten of approximately 4 months, I have lived with my adoptive family for a month and a half. I am very healthy, I play, like, I said and I go to the bathroom normally; however I have a mania that started about 3 weeks ago, I compulsively lick my belly, especially I suck on my nipples emulating drinking milk from my mommy. My family tries to distract me by playing so that I don't continue with the habit, at first it worked but now I ignore them and I continue to suck myself. I have noticed that I do this when I am bored or when I am very comfortable. I was dewormed 15 days ago. Please help! Thanks!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Kala.
An effective but annoying remedy is to wear a kitten t-shirt. But this alone will not be enough, but it is also necessary that they distract you with sweets or some food that you like a lot, and that they play a lot with you. At that age you need to play a lot.
I don't think it's more serious than that: just boredom or stress. Even so, and if you do not improve after a while, tell them to take you to the vet, because then it could speak of an allergy or some dermatological problem.

Hello good night, I have a cat of about 6 years old and due to the humid days, we thought that he would have caught a cold since he started with a lot of sneezing, we took him to the vet and they said that it was not a cold, but that they would give him a painkiller anyway The next day we took him back as he was getting worse, he was hardly breathing at all, gagging and only voting saliva, in addition to this breathing through his mouth. Today we took him back and the vet told us that it could be pyothorax that my kitten has like that, he said he would put a corticosteroid and if that made it worse it was because it was pyothorax. The cat breathes much better but is now swollen in its abdominal area and is still gagging. I'm really desperate, what can I do, what will he have?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Constance.
Give him chicken broth (boneless) to eat, and not feel so weak.
I would recommend, if your vet thinks it is necessary, to give him a pill for internal parasites, since sometimes having an inflamed abdominal area is a symptom of parasites.

I would recommend that you stop giving them bread, since it is a food that they do not really need and that can make them feel bad. With a month they can start eating wet kitten food.
Anyway, yes, to prevent it is better that you take it to the vet. More than anything just in case, because it may be that simply the bread is not sitting well, but it may be something else worse.

Hello, I rescued a kitten from the street that apparently has some generative disease or something because it is the size of a 6-month-old cat but has an adult face and is approximately 1 year and a half years old. He lacks hair due to weakness, green diarrhea and he was underweight, little by little he has regained weight, his diarrhea has improved and now it is soft brown, his hair is still the same but I am struck by the size of his belly began to grow from one day to the next and it's huge !! What will it be?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Kimberly.
Diarrhea in cats collected from the street is usually the cause of parasites. The other symptoms could be caused by these undesirable tenants.
I would recommend giving him a pill for worms, which are sold in veterinary clinics.
If it still does not improve, it should be seen by a professional.

    Hi Doc Monica,

Three weeks ago I adopted a year and a half cat from the street, when testing him for leukemia it was positive and he has been somewhat ill, many fevers, he does not eat well and we have tried various foods. he is living with a dog. For about 4 days he has been without the desire to eat, he drinks a lot of water and has urinated in places like the bed, he is very thin but his stomach is inflamed, that has been increasing a lot every day.

I want to know what to do? I am not an expert on cats and I do not know if this friend is already suffering too much, it is difficult for him to jump, he does not want to eat and he is peeing outside the sandbox, I do not know if this situation affects the dog. What do I do doc? I have read a lot and I know that the disease has no cure, but I do not know if what is happening to the cat is making it suffer too much.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello William.
First of all, I am not a doctor, so the advice I can give you does not replace in any case the opinion of a professional.
I'm very sorry about what happens to your kitten, but I don't think the solution is to put it to sleep. I don't know, I suppose you have to see yourself in the situation, but I think the vet should give it a try.
Feline leukemia is not contagious. What can happen is that the dog feels bad for seeing the kitten, his friend, like this.
      Greetings, and encouragement.

Hello, I would like if what my cat has is serious.
Tonight I realized that her belly was swollen and purple, and every time I touch her, her belly hurts. Well, since last night he has been inflamed, but his purple belly did not show any discomfort. He does his activities (eat, drink water, defecate, urinate, etc.) normally, except yesterday that he did not eat very well yesterday, and he also did (defecate) with blood. But today he felt better and did his things normally. It's bad?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Ivan.
It could be that you have a microbial imbalance, which is treated with antibiotics.
Another possible cause would be a serious illness, but I doubt it very much if yesterday it was better and today it has not worsened.
In any case, it would not hurt to pay a visit to the vet. He will know how to tell you what he really has, and what to do to make him feel good.
      A greeting.

Hello, my cat is about 2 months old, I picked him up on the street, he was super but since that afternoon he has been agitated with his stomach, but he breathes well, but he is very agitated in his belly, what will it be! Can you guide me what I can do?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Sandra.
If you picked it up from the street, it is very likely that it has intestinal parasites. I would recommend you go to the vet to buy a pill for your furry dog and, incidentally, that he look at him to see if he has anything else. So little by little you will feel better.
      A greeting.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Michel.
Is he dewormed (not only on the outside, but also on the inside? If not, the first thing I would recommend is to give him a pill for worms.
If he does not improve within a maximum couple of days, he should be seen by a vet.

I am a bit distressed, my cat has been vomiting, he barely eats but he does, his energies and mobility are the same, but I have noticed a change in his coat, he is also thinner and his stomach sounds specific shortly after vomiting, strong. He is dewormed, he has not gone to the bathroom much and what he vomits is almost pure liquid and the little he eats, greenish in color; What can I do? What can I have? It worries me.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello paola.
He may have eaten something that has gone bad, or, if he has had contact with other cats, he may have caught the virus.
I recommend you take him to the vet, and give him even chicken broth (boneless) to eat.
      Much encouragement.

I have some newborn cats, everything was going well with them, but a week later I began to notice that one of them had a bloated stomach and the worst thing is that he was very thin, he did not grow but he ate normally like the others. At first I decided to leave it a while longer to see how it continued, but it was still the same and even worse and it worries me since it is always cold, isolates itself from others and is too calm. I don't know what to do if he's only 3 weeks old.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Claudia.
You must take him to the vet. It is not normal for it to be cold, nor too calm. You may just have intestinal parasites, but it should still be treated by a professional.

      Hi Claudia.
First of all, I am not a veterinarian, so the advice I can give you does not replace in any case the opinion of a professional.
I would recommend that you urgently take him to a clinic for examination. It could be that he just had some kind of allergy, but it is best to have him examined by a vet.

      Hi carlos.
It is very likely that you have intestinal parasites, especially if you have been living on the street.
To confirm this, I would recommend taking her to a vet.
And for him to eat, give him chicken broth or cans of wet food that have more flavor and smell than dry food.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Alexandra.
In these situations, the animal must be urgently taken to the vet. When the cat does not want to eat and spends the day sleeping, it is because it may have an infection, parasites or a viral disease that is affecting it.
      Cheer up.

      Hi Dafne.
I would recommend asking for a second veterinary opinion. It is clear that something is wrong with the cat and that it is suffering. You can give him a tablespoon (of the dessert ones) of vinegar so that he can defecate. For him to eat, try giving him chicken broth (boneless), or wet food that is more smelly than dry.

But he does not eat anything at all, he goes for 5 days, so what can he do? What will it be? Help me

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Luis.
You must urgently take him to the vet. A cat that goes without food for more than 3 days can have many problems, such as hepatitis.
Try giving him wet cat food, or boneless chicken broth and see if he eats.
      Cheer up.

Hello, good night and sorry for the time!
We found 3 days ago a cat of about 7 months very tame and neat although thin, we lowered water and he drank like crazy and we decided to take him home, and the first stool was liquid and brown with milk, very bad smell, he only ate I think I went to the liquid bathroom again until I started to see blood,
I was really scared. Now he does not go to the bathroom so much, in the morning he does not poop so liquid although it is still diarrhea and later when he eats he does go back to making liquid poop although I do not observe blood, the cat has a swollen belly but is thin ... He eats and drinks normal although he almost chokes a couple of times with the craving he eats….
I took him to the vet and they gave him a pill to deworm and they sent me Flagyl for diarrhea, tomorrow I will start giving it to him ... I also notice something sad and many times he looks for solitude although there is also some time of play and activity.
I do not know if it was the stress of a new home that would have caused this and he would go away alone or give him the antibiotic they sent me since they could not see a stool sample because he began to growl and they were afraid to do so. Do I give it to him or do I let a few days go by? I am afraid that he is not getting fat .. Although he has only been here 3 days, .. Will the end be serious?
Thank you for assisting me ?

      Hello, Martha.
It is normal for him to be like this. First, because all or almost all of the cats that live on the street have intestinal parasites; and second for being in a new place.
My advice is that you give him the medicine that the vet has recommended, and a lot of love, (in addition to the basic care of food and clear water 🙂).
Thus, you will see how in a week it will be much better.
Cheer up, and congratulations on your new furry friend!

      1.    Marta said

Thank you very much for answering.
The problem with the medicine now is that it has a very bitter taste and it is totally impossible for me to give it to him, also the little he swallows he spits it out, change the medicine for the same but in a pill to be able to chop it and mix it with a special pate for cats with diarrhea but even though the medicine I mix is almost nothing, it detects it and does not eat it. In my last attempt I take it as they catch their hands and holding it well I opened his mouth and put the pill closing his mouth (as they do in the clinic) but it is completely impossible to control it and you end up spitting it out and drooling and gagging….
I am desperate because he suffers a lot with the pain of diarrhea and I am afraid that they will abandon him for having some type of more serious illness ... Tell me what you think or what you would do in my place since I am lost and I do not know what to do! Thanks in advance…

        1.    Monica sanchez said

          Hello, Martha.
Have you tried giving him the syrup with water, or mixed with canned food (or tuna)? That way he is likely to eat it.
If there is no way, I can only think of the vet giving you the injectable medicine.
          Much encouragement.

Hello, sorry to bother you again, the vet has told me to buy malt to see if he likes it and so if the diarrhea is caused by hair that can eliminate it, well he loves malt and when I saw it I gave him the chopped pastilla mixed with the malt, and bang !! He ate it!! I was very happy but then when I read the back of the malt I read that you have to give it very little and once or twice a week ...
now I have another problem ... I HAVE HAPPENED DANDOLE !! After giving it 2 times to dose the tablet in 2 shots of the size of a chestnut each !! What I do? It will make you have more diarrhea, right ??? Has the remedy been worse ??? Tell me something as soon as possible please !! All the best !!????

            Hello, Martha.
Diarrhea in cats can take a long time to go away. One of my cats was ill for a week.
We must have patience. The important thing is that you eat and drink liquids.

Hello again! Haha thanks for all your advice and help !!
It is normal for cats when they eat a lot of boiled rice then the poop comes out? They are not parasites! Either it's the rice or because of the flagyl that I give it to you in a chopped tablet ... One of the two should be. Thanks pretty! ??

Greetings and I hope for an answer as soon as possible ...

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Yonatan.
I'm sorry your kitty is bad 🙁. When they are so young, anything can affect them a lot.
I tell you: if you vomit and have a swollen belly, you may have intestinal parasites. I don't know if Telmin Unidia syrup will be sold in your country. It is sold in veterinary clinics, and is also sometimes available in pharmacies. This medicine works very well against intestinal parasites. The dose is 1ml / kg.
Another possible cause is your diet. At that age you can eat kitten food (cans, or kitten food soaked in water). Milk can hurt you.

Anyway, and being so small, it is best to take him to the vet to examine him. Just in case.

      Much encouragement.

      Hi Gigi.
It may be that the wound has not closed too well, and that you feel some kind of discomfort.

      Hello Ashley.
You may have a wound that has swollen a bit.
My advice is that you look at it to see if it has something, and if it does, clean it with hydrogen peroxide and betadine - for sale in pharmacies.
If it does not improve, or if it worsens in a couple of days, then it is better to go to the vet to have it examined.

Hi! My kitten is 3 months old, she led a normal life, she played, ate well, but it is worth mentioning that she drank more milk than water, a week ago I saw a behavior that I did not like, first I noticed that she slept more than usual, did not want to play and Her appetite was going down a lot and she didn't even want to drink milk, I vomited like three times but the strange thing is that she does the normal bath, I took her to the vet and he said that she probably had parasites so I prescribed a pill for my kitten to take it But I did not see improvement, on the contrary, I saw her even worse, basically, nor did she raise her head, I was scared because I do not want her to die, and about three days ago we noticed that her belly was very swollen. As I said at the beginning my kitten stopped eating her cat food and now she only asks for meat but in the same way she eats it very little, now she is very skinny and you can only see how swollen her belly is. As I am concerned that he does not eat almost nothing, I started to buy liver today, he ate half but I see that when he finished eating, he curled up and rolled himself into a ball in a corner, it must be because his tummy hurts. Please, what can I do? HELP !!!!

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Stephanie.
My advice is that you take her to another vet. I am not a veterinarian and I cannot help you 🙁, but I can tell you that if the cat has not improved, and in fact has worsened with the treatment given by a veterinarian, it is best to go to another, especially when she eats little .
If you have a swollen belly, it may be that an organ is beginning to fail, or that it has pus. But that can only be confirmed by a professional.
      Much encouragement.

Hi! My kitten, who is 1 year and 2 months old, asks a lot of food and plays a lot but 4 days ago I woke up in the morning and saw her as always in my bed (she sometimes stays outside and in the morning she scratches the window so that it would be open to her, that morning I scratch the window, that is, it had been left outside) but during the day I saw her sad, down, hot and curled up in bed. As it was hot I put a wet tuallita on him to see how he would respond, he did not dislike it. After a few hours passed and I tried to give cat food so that I lifted it slowly and left it on the floor, it did not move when I called it to if it scared me and I took it to the vet, there they took her temperature .. she was 41 fever, they injected him with antibiotics to lower his fever. The next day I grabbed her and put her on the ground to see how she was, I called her many times and she moved, but she moved all broken in the back. I still gave him a little milk and cat food to see if he would digest it ... and yes, he could digest it. On the third day, he kind of improved his leg movement and gave him some milk and cat food (the vet had said it was dehydrated the first day) but normally he always drinks water. And today, which is the fourth day, I continued to curl up in bed and did not want to eat the little that I ate and drank. I also noticed that his belly hurts, because when I touch him he meows. Sorry for the inconvenience and for making a story but please give me some hope because I am getting desperate for not knowing what you have. Greetings, I will wait for your comment.

    1.    Matias said

Sorry, but I forgot to tell you that on the fourth day when I grabbed her and showed her the food and milk, she beat me up, I thought she wanted to tell me something, I hope you guide me a bit. Thank you

      1.    Monica sanchez said

        Hi Matias.
I'm sorry that kitten is having a bad time 🙁
Have you looked for any scratches? I'm asking you because she was still in a fight and a cat scratched her and transmitted a disease to her - they are usually caused by viruses.
It could also be that you have had contact with the feces or saliva of a sick cat.

To do? Well, my advice is that you take her to the vet. Just by feeding him and having gone 4 days without seeing improvement, your body will probably need extra help to regain health.

        Much encouragement.

Hello Monica. My cat's belly swells to the point of bursting, and then she starts spouting pus and blood like phlegm until her stomach shrinks. And the following month the same. It didn't happen to him before. Is this zeal? Or is it some serious problem? Thanks for if you can answer me and clarify this a little more

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Laura.
How is she emotionally? Do you live a normal life?
If it is not neutered and you live in an area where the climate is warm or mild, it could be a problem derived from heat. I'm telling you about the weather because these animals normally have heat in spring, but when they are, for example, in the warm Mediterranean they can have it several times a year. But the heat itself is not the problem, and in fact, cats do not bleed.
In any case, it doesn't hurt to have a vet take a look. It is not normal for it to bleed.
      Much encouragement.

Hello, I would like to know what happens to my two-month-old kitten. We adopted her a week ago from another family, and for three or four days her belly swelled, she plays and eats normal and is very active, however she has a red anus, but she does pee and poop normal, what can to be? Parasites? First of all, Thanks. (:

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Denisse.
Congratulations on the new member of the family 🙂.
Yes, it is most likely that it has parasites. At that age it is very common to have. The vet can give you an antiparasitic.
      A greeting.

    Hello Angie.
Without seeing it, I wouldn't know how to tell you 🙂. But if the vet says she's fat and the kitten is fine, chances are she is.

Hello, can you help me? My cat had an anemic picture and I took him to the vet they told me that they gave him raw meat and they put vitamins on him, they did not give him serum because he was very anemic I don't know anything about veterinary medicine but now his stomach swelled little by little and we saw in the ultrasound as his intestines were floating in a liquid that according to the veterinarian they can not remove it but if they took a little to study it ... but here in my country they do not know well until they placed values of canines in their analysis ... what can I do ???

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Alejandra.
I'm sorry that the cat is unwell, but I recommend that you ask for a second veterinary opinion.
      I am not a veterinarian.
You can give him boneless chicken broth so he doesn't lose weight.

Thanks for the suggestion, I talked about his picture to another veterinarian and they recommended me to put him to sleep, he couldn't stop because of his swollen stomach, today I made him sleep, his story is very sad ... he came to my garage with scabies, all skeleton and it was already healthy but not gaining weight .... we dealt with his anemia but it was stronger ... :(

Hello good night, two days ago I found a beautiful kitten about a month and a half old, I took him to the vet, I dewormed him but he hardly eats, I give him baby cat food soaked with chicken broth without salt or Nothing and I give it to him with a dropper, he does not drink water and I started giving him a milk that is like a food supplement for children called enfagrow, the kitten loves it but since I have it, he does not poop I do not see what he does and I see his stomach a little swollen what can I do to help myself I am very worried and I don't have much money to take him to the doctor. ?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Sandrid.
If he does not relieve himself, try passing a gauze moistened with warm water over his ano-genital area. It is what the mother would do to stimulate him.
If he still does not do anything, ask your vet how to put a catheter on him and what medicine you can give him to eliminate internal parasites, as it is very possible that he has.
      Cheer up.

Hello Monica! I tell you more than two weeks ago I picked up a kitten almost 2 months old from the street. I did his tests and he's fine, he doesn't have toxoplasma and his blood count came out fine. I haven't beefed it yet because they told me to wait. My concern is that yesterday I gave him some tuna to eat, which he devoured and at night he began to have very agitated breathing. He woke up the same, breathing agitated, but if he eats, drinks water, plays (not so much but yes) and he looks relatively "normal" except for his breathing. Although he sleeps sitting down and when I load him he complains a little. I took him to the vet and he finished telling me that it is most likely that this breathing is due to gases because he was with many. I prescribe a few drops for gases, twice a day every twelve hours, I already gave him a dose early but he is still breathing agitated, which worries me. I had never known that gases generate quite agitated breathing in a kitten, do you know anything about that? I am very anxious about not knowing what to do, I feel that the vet was not so good on the subject, I will look for another but while I am anxious about it. I wait your answer. Thanks!

Hello Monica. For 6 months I have a kitten that I took from the roof she is very affectionate, she came with a big belly, so much so that the vet, who sees me, my pets thought she was pregnant but after I operated on her he told me that not what she has is too much fat, she is very normal, she plays, runs, jumps and eats well, but her belly does not work, she looks healthy and has a nice coat, she eats pro plan, which is what I give to the other male cats for the problem of the urine. I am worried to know if she does not have anything else but my vet tells me that if she were sick it would show and she would be down. you have seen another case like it. I await your answer in advance, thank you.

      1.    Monica sanchez said

        Hello Angie.
The truth is that I have not seen any cat like that. But what your vet says is true: if the cat were sick you would notice it right away.
Anyway, if you have never given him an antiparasitic for worms, I recommend giving it to him. They sell it in a pill and also in a pipette (Stronghold).
        A greeting.

    2.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Andrea.
The tuna you gave him, was it canned or fresh? If it was from a can, your body may have reacted badly. Canned tuna is not usually recommended to give to cats precisely for that reason, because it can give them vomiting, diarrhea and, ultimately, make their health weaken a bit.
With the drops it should improve, but you have to be patient. Sometimes it may take time to show improvement.
Still, it is advisable to take him to a second vet. Just in case.
      A greeting.

Hello. I need your help please, I am very sad and it is because I have my guardhouse that I rescued 5 months ago, at first it was very skinny and little by little it got better ... they changed our cd and it was a long trip during the journey. fine, but ate of their sand. Now 9 weeks later he is not eating, he has a tummy, puffy eyes, lethargy, he does not complain of pain and he breathes well and drank water. I already took her to the old river. 2 times they did X-rays and she doesn't complain so much they have given her. But she continues the same, they say complaint has something somewhat stuck. But it doesn't poop 🙁 I don't know what to do anymore and I've really already spent a lot of money. I changed her athena for something natural and nothing happens ... but if you brought her close to her old sand, she immediately wants to eat it. .. what I do????

Hello, I have a 20-year-old sterilized cat. A month ago she was pretty bad because she had always eaten dry food but as a result of having a sick dog to whom she gave wet food she also started taking it. At the beginning of the year I changed her She started to feed again and at first fine but then she stopped eating and her stools were always diarrhea She only drank water and hardly ate, she lost a lot of weight The vet put her on antibiotic treatment and to this day she has been great for a month I am only worried that since then he has had constant tummy noises, it should be noted that the vet advised me to eat whatever he wanted at his age, so he only eats wet food. These noises may be due to digestion since the deparasite also makes a week and his tummy even having eaten is like an orchestra ??? Thanks. All the best

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Eva.
First of all, congratulations on taking such good care of your cat. 20 years already ... I'm sure she's very spoiled 🙂
At that age yes, what you say is very likely. Digestion slows down as the years go by, and it is normal for you to hear the odd sound coming from your body.
Anyway, if you have doubts, take her to the vet to see what she says.
      A greeting.

      Hello lucero.
The safest thing is that they are side effects of antiparasitics. Little by little it should improve.

Hello, I would like to see if you can help me, my kitten is 12 years old, she started 8 days ago with heat and her abdomen began to swell, something that had not happened to her, her abdomen is hard, which it was not before, I took her to the vet. They did X-rays and blood tests to rule out liver, heart and kidney diseases but the results came out perfect. They sent him a diuretic treatment because they gave him geringa in the inflammation and it was water. So he supposes that he is retaining liquids and suppose that it was because of the heat and a fall that he had. Just yesterday she started the treatment but I do not see changes, she thinks I should wait, I know that it is very fast as I want it to work, but seeing her these days just as inflamed worries me.

      Hi Yoya.

    I need urgent help.
I have already visited 2 veterinary clinics and they tell me to stimulate them but they are very small and do not defecate
Also in the exams they have parasites

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Dayana.
Being so small they need to be stimulated. You have to pass a gauze moistened in warm water over the anus-genital area about 15 minutes after eating. Circular massages on the abdomen also help a lot.
In the event that they still do not defecate, you can smear the anus with vinegar. If you can, with a swab from your ears, try to get it inside, just a little bit. There is no harm to them.
If they have parasites, your vet can give you a deworming syrup.
      A greeting.

Do you think it is something to worry about? I would appreciate your prompt reply. From Clermont Florida, Alberto.

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Alberto.
Although cats do not leave the house, humans do. Sometimes without realizing it we bring a tenant with us, such as a tick, flea or a mite. If that area is scratched, it is recommended that you take it to the vet.

He got better and the whole problem is that a week ago I see him as having trouble urinating and he is licking his genitals a lot and does not let them touch his stomach. I wanted to see if he could help me out a bit as I lost my job a few months ago and I don't have the money to take him to a vet and this is very frustrating for me.

      Hi Javiera.
You can try giving him his food mixed with water, or cans of wet food.
Of course, it is important that what you give does not contain cereals, since many urinary problems in cats are caused by a diet that contains cereals.

      Hi Eliz.
I recommend that you give him a food that does not have cereals. Often the feed that they do carry causes these problems in cats, especially kittens.
There are a lot of really good ones, like Applaws, Origen, Acana, Taste of the Wild, True Instinct High Meat.
It should improve in a short time, but if it still doesn't, don't hesitate to take it to the vet.

It turns out that he was in bones because he did not eat it seems, and now we give him 3 to 4 cups of coffee as food, also milk and water. But since yesterday he has a bloated stomach and I notice him a little down. Makes all kinds of poop, liquid, solid, light brown, dark, etc. Could it be that the change in diet has made him bloated?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Leti.
It's probably the milk. The vast majority of cats cannot tolerate it.
You can give him one that is specific for cats, but with two and a half months he does not need it 🙂

By the way, have you dewormed it? When coming from the street you probably have worms. Your vet can recommend a syrup for him.

Hello, 5 months ago we rescued a 1 month old kitten. We took him to the vet and as he was making loose poop after a coprology they saw bacteria and guiardias. After two treatments of panacur and one of flagyl, we managed to eradicate them.
It still continued with a swollen belly and loose poop until we found a feed that made it compact.
He is very active, playful and eats very well (often small amounts) but still has a very swollen abdomen.
I do not know if he is fat but it surprises me because the rest of his body I see thin, it is just like a big ball in the abdomen area.
    What can i do?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Mari.
Have you dewormed it? At that age you can already put a Stronghold pipette, which eliminates all kinds of parasites, both external and internal.
If he leads a normal life and you only see that, the most likely thing is that either he has nothing, or he has some worms.

Hello good, my cat is 7 months old and apart from that he eats a lot and with a lot of anxiety he has a swollen and hard belly, we think they are worms, but they were medicating him recently we took him, if someone has happened to him, help me, I do not want him to nothing happens. The vet also gave her the same deworming pill every month and a friend who has studied this but does not work as a vet told me that it is not normal for them to medicate her.

      Hi Denise.
Yes, it might have worms. If you can, try to get a syrup called Telmin Unidia, and follow the directions.
If not, I recommend you ask for a second veterinary opinion.
      A greeting.

Hello, good morning, my cat started to get fat on her stomach, it looks like a pregnant cat, I thought it was something that would pass but for the second week, it looks skinny even with that big belly, it sleeps a lot, it sleeps less, it sleeps more, I touch it, but it doesn't complain. of pain or discomfort I do not know what to do I want to see it well ... but these veterinarians in my area are more pet stylists than anything else

      Hi Yesicam.
It may have worms. But that could only be confirmed by a vet, sorry.

      Hi Nelly.
I'm very sorry about what happens to your cat, but I'm not a veterinarian.
If you can, I would recommend taking it to another professional. Nor should it be ruled out that you have a problem with Stress.
      Cheer up.

Greetings dra. Monica. Thanks in advance for the advice you can give me. I have a six-year-old cat that began to eat feces a few days ago, I try to clean the space they use as a bathroom because I have other cats, but since I have to go to work, he does it. I applied a dewormer twice but I have noticed that his stomach is inflamed, his appetite has increased, he drinks water outside of normal and when he walks he falls from the sides. He has also lost his sense of stability and at mealtime he eats wildly. He eats and cleans himself but his movements are discord. Despite having always had cats, it is the first time I have seen a case like this. I would like you to give me an explanation and if there is any treatment for this. Thank you so much

      Hi Wilbert.
You must take her to the vet. I'm not, and anyway from here (Spain) I can't do much.

      Hi Bri.
Could it be that I had inestinal worms. I would recommend taking him to the vet to give him an oral dewormer.

Hello, my cat has been very swollen and hard for three days ... We did not know what it was, until my father saw him eating chives from the "garden" as if it were grass, we already covered it so that he would not eat it, he was eating like crazy, almost as if it were catnip .. Anyway, I know that could be the problem, since all onion "raw" plants are toxic to cats and many other animals. What I can do? He eats a mixture of holistic food and another that is catfit or something, should I wait or take him to the vet to get him something? He does not get angry if he touched his belly, so if it bothers him, it should not bother him or hurt a lot ... If it were up to me, I would take him, but my family prefers the most homemade things, unless it is an emergency, to save money, so.
Greetings and thank you very much

      Hello Valentina.

Yes, I understand your family. But I recommend you take it to the vet if you haven't already, because as you say, onion is toxic to cats.

      Greetings.

Hello, my cat has had a bigger and bigger bloated stomach for 4 days, eats a lot and almost only wants meats. He was always skinny because I didn't have him sterilized but sometimes I think he's pregnant, but he's male.

      Hello Ana.

I recommend you consult with a veterinarian. It is not normal for you to eat a lot overnight.

      Greetings.

Hello, good morning, I need your help, I don't have what I need to be able to take my kitten to the vet. She is limited, she moves from one side to the other, she complains, I checked her, the lower part of the belly is swollen and pink. would be very helpful?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hello Belen.

I'm sorry about your cat, but my advice is that you look to contact a veterinarian through the Internet for example. I'm not a veterinarian and I can't tell you what she has.

      Greetings.

Hello Good morning a few days ago my three-month-old cat started eating dirt from his litter box, and I have put cologne, vinegar on it, but he still eats the sand, how can I avoid that?

    1.    Monica sanchez said

      Hi Leyla.

When a cat eats things that are not edible it can be due to stress, boredom or because the food that is given is not good enough.
If he is three months old, it is very important to play with him every day, several times, so that he has fun and also so that he gets tired and calm.
Likewise, it is necessary to give food of specific quality for growing cats, that does not have cereals or, at least, that as cereal only contains rice. In this way you will be more satisfied.

      Regards!
