Alternatives to the Elizabethan collar in cats

Let's be clear: no cat likes to wear the Elizabethan collar. In fact, they hate it. Although some may not show their discomfort as much as others, the reality is that if they could speak they would ask us to remove them immediately. Luckily for them, we can choose to put other things that will be somewhat more comfortable.

Clothing

In general, I do not recommend dressing cats since they do not need it (unless they are very cold or have no hair, of course), but when they come out of an operation in which the vet has advised us to wear a collar Elizabethan -like after a castration, for example- you can choose to put clothes on them.

Be careful, not all kinds of clothes, since it will depend a lot on the season of the year in which we are. Is It must be comfortable, easy to put on and take off, and made of cotton. In the case of summer, a thinner fabric will be used.

Gauze and bandage (net type)

This is especially recommended if they have had surgery in summer or if you have to be very, very aware of the wound. To put them on, two people are needed: one of them will hold the cat and keep it distracted with treats for example, while the other will put the gauze that has to be put on the wound and a bandage net type -can be tubular- that should cover approximately 20cm of the animal's body.

Of course, from my own experience, I advise that some holes be made in the bandage so that it can be hooked on the legs. This way, it cannot be removed.

Sometimes, yes or yes, we will have to put an Elizabethan collar (or something similar) on them.
